Surface Mining vs. Subsurface Mining

Surface mining is a type of mining in which the soil and rock above the mineral are removed. There are three types of surface mining: strip mining, open-pit mining, and mountaintop removal mining. Strip mining is used to mine coal, open-pit mining is used to mine "hard rock mining," and mountaintop removal mining is used to

Subsurface mining

Fracking involves drilling and injecting fluid into the ground at a high pressure. The high pressure causes the rocks to release natural gas and oil. Many people do not like fracking because it has many environmental concerns. It contaminates the water. is a well-stimulation technique in which rock is fractured by a hydraulically pressurized liquid made of water, sand, and chemicals. Some hydraulic fractures form naturally—certain veins or dikes are examples. A high-pressure fluid

Drilling on land vs. drilling in the ocean

Drilling on land versus drilling in water

Onshore drilling and offshore drilling share some similarities and differences. Onshore drilling involves drilling deep holes under the Earth's surface and offshore drilling involves drilling underneath the sea bed. They both use similar equipment. However, drilling in the water is slightly more complex, and consequently costs more money. It also has more risks and hazards. Drilling is a cutting process that uses a drill bit to cut or enlarge a hole of circular cross-section in solid materials.
