Shoes with Soul

As the school year comes to an end, we are asking you to consider donating gently used gym shoes to our Shoes with Soul program. This program provides each grade level shoes that students can have or use as needed for the upcoming school year. Drop off boxes can be found in the Eagle River Elementary School lobby (outside of the office). Collection will take place from Monday, May 4th - Monday, May 18th. If you have any questions, please contact Karie Jo Blemke (Assistant Principal): blemke@npsd,k12.wi.us, (715) 479-6471, ext. 4120. Thank you!

Virtual Field Trip

This week, we took our 1st virtual field trip! We visited a library in Washington, D.C. and listened to President Obama speak about education and technology. President Obama said the most important thing about our education is our, "ATTITUDES!" Great message!

2nd Grade Family Fun Night!

Eagle River Elementary School

6:00 - 7:00 p.m.

We are excited to invite you to our Family Fun Night! This Family Fun Night will be our end of year “party” as well as the culminating activity to our “One Grade, One Book” program. Each 2nd grade teacher has purchased a copy of the book Sideways Stories from Wayside School by Louis Sachar for your child to keep. We are sending the books home and asking that you read this book with your child and have it completed by our Family Fun Night on June 3rd. Please see the guidelines below. These are just guidelines, so feel free to read at your leisure (more or less). Anyone can read - your child, siblings, or you! We are encouraging families to read this book together. There will be a very fun trivia game (using Kahoot!) on Family Fun Night. We will also be reading this book together in class as a read aloud. We would like to point out that some of the children at Wayside School do not exhibit expected behaviors at school - being respectful, responsible, and safe. As a group, we have decided to use these examples as teachable moments for our students. For example, we will discuss more positive alternatives to handling situations. It is a very funny and silly book and we think that your family will enjoy reading it! Please contact us with any questions!

Baby Chicks!

This week, I brought my baby chicks to school to visit. We even got to take them outside (the chicks first time!). It was so much fun to have some class pets! Some of our students even enjoyed reading to them!

Never Forgotten Honor Flight

This past week, I had the pleasure and honor to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight with WWII, Korean and Vietnam War veterans. It was an amazing experience. I was able to tweet the kids and Ms. Toivonen; for example, I sent them a picture from the plane and asked them to identify clouds. I also shared all of the pictures of the memorials with them. We had some great discussion! If you know of a veteran that would like to go on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight, please contact me and I can get you information!
