Sight Word Busters - Big Day of Giving!
Hello Parker Whitney families. As a member of the Board of Directors for a wonderful nonprofit organization called 'Sight Word Busters', I am helping to coordinate a very important fundraiser.
Sight Word Busters is a program that has been in existence at Parker Whitney for 5 years. Every child in TK, Kindergarten and 1st grade benefits from trained volunteers who go into classrooms daily to work 1:1 with students to boost reading skills. Most of the volunteers are Parker Whitney parents/grandparents, or retired teachers from our community who come back to support this wonderful program. Even if your child is in 6th grade this year, if they were at PW in Kindergarten, 1st or 2nd grade they would have been the recipient of Sight Word Busters.
Even though Sight Word Busters has been operating (and growing) for the past 8 years, now is the first time that our organization is eligible to participate in a major fundraising program of the Northern California region called 'Big Day of Giving'. If you feel so inclined, you could participate and make a huge difference in a small nonprofit organization. Visit: https://bigdayofgiving.org/sightwordbusters. There you can check out all the information about our organization, view some fun photos and videos and, possibly even push the Donate button.
If you would rather donate via Parker Whitney's Sight Word Buster dollar bill drive, please have your child drop their bills into the box that is located in the office, or turn in to their teacher. All donations must be in by May 2nd.
Last but not least, if you would like more information about becoming a Sight Word Buster next year, please email dvanliew@rocklinusd.org. You may just find that it is the most rewarding 1 hour commitment of any week!!!
Thank you in advance!

Please try to have your student present during their testing block. Please try to avoid scheduling appointments and vacations during this window.
You can help your student "show what they know" by ensuring that they get a good night's sleep each night, a healthy breakfast each morning and a snack for the morning recess. We will be providing snacks for our testing students during this testing window, but an extra snack wouldn't hurt!
Encourage your child to do the very best they can in demonstrating their skills. Test taking can be stressful for students, so remind them that these assessments are important for us to know what they have learned but do not affect their grades or advancement to the next grade. Let them know that this is their opportunity to show you and their teachers all the great things they have learned this year!
If you have any questions in regards to the assessment or testing window, please reach out to your classroom teacher or administration.
GO PANTHERS!
