Tax Reciprocity for Minnesota Residents

Attention Minnesota Residents: If you do not want North Dakota (ND) income tax withheld from your Fargo Public Schools wages, you must complete Form NDW-R and return it to Beckie Braton at the District Office by February 29. You must complete a new form each year to continue the exemption from withholding. If you do not fully complete this form, sign, and return it as explained, the District is required to withhold ND income tax from your wages.

Communications Survey

Fargo Public Schools is seeking feedback on communicating school delays and closures and the District’s e-newsletter. Please take a few moments to complete the short, seven question survey. Thank you in advance for your time. The survey closes on January 31.

FPS Foundation 2020 Spring Grants

Spring 2020 grant applications are due to the FPS Development Foundation office by Monday, February 3. Innovative Education Grants for classroom and teacher projects are awarded up to $2,500. Grant guidelines and application materials have been updated. You can download the new application online. These grants are made possible through established endowment funds and annual contributions from the greater community. Eleanor Laing Law Grant

Eleanor Laing Law was a Fargo Public Schools student who graduated from Fargo Senior High School in 1931 and taught journalism at Agassiz School in the 1930's. The Eleanor Laing Law Endowed Fund, which typically produces up to $25,000 in annual investment income, supports innovative literacy and library projects in the Fargo Public Schools. The Eleanor Laing Law Grant application is due by March 31, 2020 to the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation. These grants are awarded for implementation in the 2020-21 school year. Funds become available in July of 2020. Contact the Foundation at 701.446.1041 or email with any questions.


Cabinet Column

Last year, Superintendent Dr. Rupak Gandhi wrote a cabinet column about the formation of Fargo Public Schools' Safety Committee, and its primary purpose to address challenges and safety-related concerns. This year, the Safety Committee has worked to revise two administrative policies. Read about the revisions in this week's Cabinet Column by Fargo Public Schools Dr. Gandhi.


National Coach of the Year Finalists

Congratulations to three Fargo Public Schools coaches for being selected as finalists for National Coach of the Year for 2020. The finalists are the following:

  • Victor Youngs, tennis coach at South High School
  • Talia Butery, swimming and diving coach at North High School
  • Nick Christianson, soccer coach at Davies High School

State Dance Results

Congratulations to all three Fargo high school dance teams who competed in the North Dakota Association of Dance and Drill State Competition January 24 and 25 at the Alerus Center in Grand Forks. The dance teams made history by each qualifying for finals in the state Jazz category for the first time.
  • Fargo North Spartacas placed Third in Class A Small Varsity Pom and Fourth in Small Varsity Jazz.
  • Fargo South Bruinkix are State Champions in Class A Small Varsity Jazz, Second in Small Varsity Pom and Second in Small Varsity High Kick.
  • Davies Eagles Elite are State Champions in Class A Large Varsity Jazz, Second in Large Varsity Hip Hop, Second in Large Varsity Pom, and Third in Large Varsity High Kick.

Clara Barton Elementary School Spelling Bee

Congratulations to the five winners from the Clara Barton Spelling Bee for 2020. After spelling a total of 188 words, the following students have been crowned winners:
  • 1st Place - Nate Wilson, fourth grade
  • 2nd Place - Hannah Wiltse, fourth grade
  • 3rd Place - Nyah Romaine, fifth grade
  • 4th Place - Jack Shea, fifth grade
  • 5th Place - Addy Johnson, fifth grade

The students will move on to the Cass County Spelling Bee held on Tuesday, February 25 at the El Zagel Shrine.


Hear For The Kids

This week on Hear For The Kids, Eagles Elementary School counselor Cassie Larson and Student Wellness and Family Facilitator Carly Gaddie discussed the benefits of gratitude, and stress management. This podcast is posted every two weeks to share information and ideas regarding school, mental health, home life, and building relationships.

FEA Check Presentation

On Thursday, January 23, the Fargo Education Association donated $3,098.48 to the Fargo Public Schools Development Foundation to alleviate student lunch debt. The funds were raised through a jeans week, and will be used to match on Giving Hearts Day on February 13. 2020-21 School Year Open Enrollment & Petition Process Deadlines

Deadlines for student open enrollment and the in-district petition process are coming soon.

To request a student transfer from one school to another school within the Fargo School District, follow the PETITION guidelines:

  • Deadline for Middle and High School Fall Enrollment: January 31
  • Deadline for renewing petitions for Elementary School Fall Enrollment: May 1

To request a transfer from one school district to another, this must be done by February 28, 2020, following the OPEN ENROLLMENT guideline. Find detailed information on our website.


Student Success Forum: Positive Choices

Community members are invited to the Student Success Forum: Positive Choices on Tuesday, February 4 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Dakota Medical Foundation (4141 28th Avenue South, Fargo). West Fargo Public Schools, the West Fargo Police Department, and AM 110 The Flag WZFG will co-host the third of four forums sharing information on hot-button issues impacting today's youth: vaping, alcohol, and responsible gun storage.


Elim Evacuation to Eagles Elementary

On Thursday, January 23, 111 senior citizen residents and more than 30 preschool children from Elim Care & Rehab Center were evacuated from the building due to a fire and temporarily relocated to Eagles Elementary School next door. Multiple Fargo Public Schools (FPS) staff members came together to make the evacuation and temporary sheltering a seamless process. Thank you to the FPS staff for taking the step forward and helping during an emergency!
