"Thank you to Freeport Aquin Schools for hosting a Goodwill Donation Drive. Through your generosity, you collected and donated 7,406 pounds of unwanted, gently-used clothing and household items. Those items add up to over 1200 hours of job/skills training opportunities for individuals in our community! THANK YOU! ❤️ Shown (below) is the Freeport Aquin School 7th grade class - this class collected the most donations out of all grades with an astounding 3,350 pounds! Wow! Great job!!!"

Big picture

We Are 'The Little Schools that Can'!!!

From May 14-28, Aquin's 7th grade Discovery class collected gently used items that were then donated to Goodwill of Northern Illinois. Each 7-12 grade student was given a blue Goodwill bag to take home to fill clothing, books, toys, sporting goods, dishes, glassware, shoes, jewelry, purses and many many more items on the 'accepted' list provided by Goodwill. The items had to fit in the bins that Goodwill provided. These bins were inside the main door and the gym lobby of the High School Campus.Donated items were eligible for tax deduction if requested and an itemized donation list was provided.

To say we were overwhelmed at the amount of donations we received is an understatement!! And as you read above (or watched in the video above), Goodwill was also astounded.

Goodwill committed to paying Aquin ten cents per pound of acceptable materials. With our total pounds of 7406, we will be receiving a check for $740 which will go to our 'Blessing Box' fund. Our Blessing Box is still under construction, but when completed, will be installed on our High School Campus on Galena Avenue. It will be filled with non-perishable food items, clothing, and toiletries for anyone in need. Aquin's National Honor Society will be in charge of the maintenance and stocking of this box for the community.

As always, we couldn't do what we do without the tremendous support of our families and community. Thank You, Thank You, Thank You for your generosity, commitment and dedication to help us continue to be 'The Little Schools That Can'!
