@your school library
September 2015
Welcome Back to School! I am so happy to be the new school librarian at Peters Colony!
Below is important information about Peters Colony Library for this year:
*Please let me know if you need any print or nonprint resources - "Have car and will travel" to the public library for you, if need be. I can also order materials from other schools through intercampus loan.
*If you need a title and it is not available in our library, I will put it in my Consideration File and order it with library funds.
*If you ever see the words: Research or Poetry in your curriculum ............Who you gonna call????? Lizzy the Librarian, that's who! I love to collaborate and will be more than happy to plan &/or teach a Research Boot Camp for your class or be a Poetress Presenter for your students. Just give me a call, or better yet - an email!
*Teachers, as mentioned during orientations, kindly remain with your class during their weekly "Book Exchange", because I may not always be in the library when you come. Weekly "Book Exchange" will begin after orientations are completed.
*Students may come in on passes anytime that you choose, but they need to be aware that if there is not an adult supervisor in the library, they need to return to class.
In the spirit of being open & honest: I LOVE helping students and staff but .........disclaimer.......I'm so very forgetful!!!!

International Dot Day
I'm sure many of you have heard of International Dot Day. It is a celebration based on the book by Peter H. Reynold's The Dot. The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to "make her mark". What begins as a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the world. Join me in celebrating International Dot Day by having our students create an original product out of a simple dot. I will have some hands on activities in the library for the students to get creative with or if you'd like we can collaborate on an activity together. Dot Day is September 15ish. Please send me an email with the subject line Dot Day if you'd like me to read the book to your class and/or create a dot lesson together!
Feeling Philanthropic?
When: North Texas Giving Day is September 17, 6 am - midnight.
What: North Texas Giving Day is a community-wide effort to fund non-profits in North Texas. In Dallas County, only 36% of students are reading on grade level in 3rd grade. Dallas also has the 3rd highest child poverty rate of the 20 largest cities in the nation (behind Detroit and Memphis). Between 1980 and 2010, poverty in Dallas County neighborhoods has gone up by 242% (source: Commit! 2014 Community Achievement Scorecard). R2L is making a difference in West Dallas everyday by providing high-quality programming that can make a difference for Dallas' most at-risk students.

LEAVE ME A NOTE........
Calling all Board Books!!!!
I would like to issue a plea for board books! If you have any at home that your own children have outgrown, please consider donating them to the school library. I would like to beef up the collection for our PK students. Thank you so very much! Also, if anyone has a sport coat that hubby or son has outgrown, please consider donating those for our PNN student "reporters". Thank you again for considering this request.
This was my book this summer......what was yours?
