Waiters and Waitresses

Waiters and waitresses in France are considered very professional. They must not only be good, but also very knowledgeable. It is polite to address them as monsieur or madame or mademoiselle. You are expected to enjoy your food slowly.

French speakers usually use understatements when saying how they liked the food.


In France a 15% tip is usually added in the check. However, it is customary to leave a little extra if the service was great
