Resources for Latinx Heritage OCTOBER/National Hispanic Heritage Month Cont. 2020

El Regalo de Lenna/ Lenna's Gift

This amazing book, written by our own FPGB's Mariposas, is "an allegorical tale of transformation and liberation, we meet River, who aspires to greatness by becoming 'big and strong like Ocean.' When River meets Lenna, a wise, liberated, and determined girl with a remarkable plan, River learns that excessive power always comes at someone else’s expense, and that true fortitude comes from valuing and elevating everyone's stories, and from asking one very simple question, 'How can I help?'

**100% of the proceeds from sales of El Regalo de Lenna / Lenna's Gift will go to the Mariposas Scholarship Fund, a community-driven initiative that has awarded over $10,000 in scholarships to first-generation Latinx students during the last 3 years.**"

October is Disability Awareness Month!

This year in 2020, we are celebrating the 75th year of Disability Awareness Month as well as the 30th Anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The purpose of Disability Awareness Month is to promote the inclusion of individuals with disabilities into our schools and communities and to highlight the wonderful contributions they make. The teachers in our district will be sharing this message with our students through books, classroom discussions, and assignments. We hope that you will take the opportunity this month to talk with your student about how we can appreciate and celebrate differences and individuality. You can visit our website for more information:
