Students Organize Collection for No-Kill Animal Rescue
We are from the WISH ELT. WISH stands for Wash Is Seriously Helping. Our ELT helps organizations around the community, and we decided to help Whispurring Hope Animal Rescue in Dyersville. They are a non-profit animal rescue in Dubuque County. Whispurring Hope was started in early 2014 by Vicky Ruefer and her daughter April Hoskins. They are a state-licensed, no-kill rescue that works to give every animal a fighting chance. We are asking for your help to send in items with your student to school that are needed by Whispurring Hope. You can send in your items through Monday, October 17th. Thanks for your help.
Here are the items they need:
- Clumping/scoopable cat litter
- Disinfectant spray
- Garbage bags
- Paper towels
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Cat toys
- Dog toys

September Students of the Month!
A huge shout out for our Wahawks who were chosen to be Students of the Month! These students were selected by their house teachers because of their character, demonstration of Wash Values, and overall work ethic! These students were treated to a lunch, compliments of Hy-Vee on Locust Street. These students consistenly demonstrate Wash Values, work well with others, demonstrate leadership skills and so much more! Way to go Wahawks!

Congrats to Students Showing Excellence in the Cafeteria
Over the past two weeks, staff at Washington were recognizing students for the EXCELLENT behavior in the cafeteria during lunch with sweeping, wiping tables, and sitting quietly at the end of lunch. Students "caught" doing the expected behavior were awarded a ticket and praised for their demonstration of the lunchroom etiquette. The students listed below had their ticket/name drawn from the container to receive a delicious homemade rice krispie treat! Congrats for a job well done in the Wash Café!

Are You Using PowerSchool?
The Dubuque Community Schools use PowerSchool as its student information system
(where grades, attendance, etc. are all reported). As a parent, you have access to
PowerSchool from any device with online access. Simply launch your Internet browser on your computer and go to https://ps-dubuque.gwaea.org/public/ to login and view your student's academic progress. For ease of access, you can even get
the app for your smart phone. Simply go the app store, search PowerSchool. Select
PowerSchool Mobile created by PowerSchool Group LLC. Download the App.
Open the app and follow these steps:
Step 1: Click on Where is my district code?
Step 2: Select Search for Your District.
Step 3: Enter the following in the box under PowerSchool Server Address – http://ps-dubuque.gwaea.org and click Submit. This will auto-populate the District Code.
Step 4: Enter your Username and Password for PowerSchool. Click on Sign in.
Your dashboard will then load. The PowerSchool App is a wonderful communication tool between school and home. You are able to monitor your student’s progress in all classes. The dashboard gives you an overview of your student’s current performance in each course. You can then click on each course grade to see your student’s performance on each assignment, project, quiz, test, etc. in that particular course. Having access to this information opens the doors for conversations to have with your student about their learning and performance at school.
If your student has an iPod or smart phone, encourage him/her to self-monitor their own grades by downloading the app as well. Each student has his/her own set of login credentials for PowerSchool.
Once you are using the app, you can go to the More option at the bottom right corner and select Help Center to learn about specific features within the app.
Stay in the Loop with the PowerSchool App on Your Smart Phone
