Student Library Surveys
Students submitted their recommendations for books to add to our library collection and ways to make our library a better place. They gave such great ideas!
When students are interested and excited about the books in the library, they are better able to meet these standards:
Alabama CCRS (College and Career Ready Standards):
- RL 2.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories and poetry, in the grades 2-3 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
- RL.3.10. By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the high end of the grades 2-3 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
- RL.4.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, in the grades 4-5 text complexity band proficiently, with scaffolding as needed at the high end of the range.
- RL.5.10 By the end of the year, read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poetry, at the high end of the grades 4-5 text complexity band independently and proficiently.
Dr. Faust's Read Aloud
The second graders loved having Dr. Faust read to them in the library!
Morning Time in the Library
Students visit the library in the mornings before school to check out new books. Students with Morning Library passes may stay in the library in the mornings to read or to participate in a variety of STEM activities. Students earn Morning Library Passes by reading quietly in the gym in the mornings.
Makey Makey Inventor Kits
Students worked in teams to draw a musical instrument, write code in Scratch, and play the instrument using Makey Makey Inventor Kits. Thank you to our wonderful Technology Integration Specialist for introducing me to Makey Makeys! These kits have opened up worlds of creative opportunities for our students. It was such an honor to collaborate with Lauren Long, our amazing STEM Lab Teacher, on a coding and Makey Makey lesson with the third graders this month!
Treasures in Our Books
Kindergarten students did a great job of finding treasures in their library books! Treasures can be special words, letters, colors, or pictures that the students discover while reading their books.
