December updates

Academics

We have been talking and have decided to extend Jellies into next week. There are a lot of special activities happening over the upcoming days and we want to make sure students have ample time to master the material. Assessments over Jellies and accompanying spelling/vocab words will be given on Wednesday, December 14 and Friday, December 16. So, students have another week to practice their words and skills.

In math, we are taking our time learning different ways to subtract two digit numbers. Both topic 5 and 6 address this learning goal. We will finish topic 5 before break and begin topic 6 when we return in January. I am looking at the Unit 5 test being the morning of December 20 or 21, I will let you know as we get closer.

Nutcracker

We are busy preparing for our Grandparent's Day and Nutcracker performance on December 15. Please send a lunch with your child that day. Only children with permission slips signed will be allowed to leave with their Grandparents/Special Friends. It is an exciting and fun-filled day!

Christmas Party

Our Christmas Party will be Wednesday, December 21. Mrs. Ortiz is planning it. We will not be exchanging gifts. In place, we welcome gifts for the Joan Martin food basket to support families here at Joan Martin that need assistance this winter.

The last day of break before winter will be pajama day. Please wear warm, school appropriate pajamas to end out 2016 as we celebrate with hot chocolate.

There are lots of germs floating around this time of year. Please help remind your child to sneeze and cough into their elbow, wash their hands frequently, and keep their hands off of their face. I'm hoping that the majority of the class can make it to break without these illnesses!
