The Week Ahead in 3-215!
Week of September 28th
This Week...
This week, our first month of school will end and we will start October! In Math, we will be continuing our study of multiplication and division and we will be learning the Commutative Property of Multiplication. In Fundations, we will start a new unit and learn new sound alike words as well as rules about suffixes. In Reading, we are learning all about different genres of books. Last week, we learned about realistic fiction, traditional literature, mysteries, and historical fiction. This week, we will learn about fantasy, science fiction, informational books, and biographies/autobiographies. In Social Studies, we are learning about the continents and oceans as well as map skills. In Writing Workshop, we are filling our notebooks with many different entries in preparation for our personal narrative study beginning next week.
Starting our Blogs!
We are looking forward to creating our blogs this week! Stay tuned for our first posts.
Realistic Fiction
We explored the books in our classroom that fit into this genre after listening to Enemy Pie, a realistic fiction picture book.
Math Stations
During Math Workshop, one of our stations is to use the iPads to play games that help us develop our fact fluency!
One Book to Connect the World!
I am so excited to announce our class will be participating in The Global Read Aloud Project, beginning October 5th. I will be reading aloud to the class the book Fish in a Tree by Lynda Mullaly Hunt. We will have the opportunity to discuss this book with other classes around the country. We are linked with a class in a "mystery" location and this week, we will chat with the class over Voxer (an app on your phone that allows you to send audio messages) to give them clues about where we live and try to guess where they live!
I will be asking the students to complete a page in a class book we will send our mystery friends. The book is to show them what life is like in Farmingdale through the many seasons. If you have pictures of your child enjoying life in Farmingdale or other places in Long Island (or even New York City), please email them to me or send them into school. Beach pictures, snow pictures, city pictures- all would help add to our book! Thank you!
