Marching On

Big image

I hope 2nd grade families had a relaxing and restful Spring Break! Before vacation, Little and Big Friends shared an interesting field trip to the Franklin Institute to enhance their understanding of their amazing brains. In language arts, students have learned about the open syllable and rules for the "y" ending. The Oxford Comma controversy rages on during the Daily Edit with a 50/50 opinion split. Will it be solved be June? Stayed tuned. The Bookworm Project, which has students focusing on elements of literature and creating a synopsis of a favorite book, is underway. In math, 2nd graders have been making "cents" of the economy by opening up their own stores, withdrawing money from the bank, being customers, calculating change, and producing receipts. We have begun a fraction unit that builds a base of understanding for time, linear measurement, and capacity.

Last but not least, please extend a warm welcome to our new friend, Victor, and his family. He has joined the class with a ready smile and interesting facts to share. We are happy to have an "even dozen."
