What Is the background on Anxiety?

An anxiety disorder involves an excessive state of feelings of apprehension, uncertainty, or fear. The word is from the Latin, angere , which means to choke or strangle. The anxiety response is usually not triggered by a real threat but it can still paralyze the individual into inaction or withdrawal. An anxiety disorder persists, while a response to a threat resolves, once the threat is removed. Generalized Anxiety effects about 5% of Americans.

"Anxiety is an emotion characterized by an unpleasant state of inner turmoil, often accompanied by nervous behavior, such as pacing back and forth, somatic complaints and rumination. It is the subjectively unpleasant feelings of dread over anticipated events, such as the feeling of imminent death. Anxiety is not the same as fear, which is a response to a real or perceived immediate threat; whereas anxiety is the expectation of future threat. Anxiety is a feeling of fear, uneasiness, and worry, usually generalized and unfocused as an overreaction to a situation that is only subjectively seen as menacing. It is often accompanied by muscular tension, restlessness, fatigue and problems in concentration. Things you should take into consideration...

Remember, people with Anxiety Disorder can develop other disorders as well. Such as, depression, anorexia-nervosa, bulimia, etc.
