WBMS Friday Notes
Dec 18th-21st
Reflections from Ms. Perkins
WBMS Parents and Guardians,
Our week was filled with finals and festivities! Thank you to all our grandparents who joined us this morning for our grandparent breakfast; the bear hugs and ear-to-ear smiles brought a special joy to our campus. Also, thank you again to all of you who donated reams of paper; our paper tree is enormous, and we are beyond grateful!
After demonstrating their knowledge and mastery of standards this week, our students enjoyed a special holiday-themed music program today, and it was quite a show! I am proud of our students’ hard work and growth this semester and thankful for your support! I wish you all a restful and fun-filled winter break!
In collaboration,
Rebecca Williams Perkins

Parent University- January
The adolescent years are marked by a roller-coaster ride of emotions which may be difficult for youth, parents, and educators. Many students struggle dealing adequately with the stress and pressure of academics, extra-curricular activities, and socialization in the middle school environment.
To proactively address these issues, Webb Bridge Middle School is partnering with the LRJ Foundation by offering a self-care and behavioral health Parent University on Jan 11th in the Webb Bridge MS Media Center.
The LRJ Foundation’s interactive “Wellness Matters” presentation provides psycho-education on mental health and wellness, common mental illnesses, and coping mechanisms to improve mental health.
LRJ’s presentation is two fold:
First, LRJ wants to educate parents on the key components of:
o Mental wellness
o Depression
o Anxiety
o Bipolar Disorder
o Emotional expression
o Bullying
o Suicidal Ideation
Second, teach parents how to:
o Watch for warning signs and risk factors
o Start conversations on mental health
o Support their child’s wellness
o Use positive coping mechanisms
o Teach and model appropriate emotional expression
o Know when to seek professional help
By the end, parents will be better able to understand and support their child's emotional well-being. All of LRJ’s presenters are mental health professionals who are equipped to help parents and children!
For questions regarding the content of the Parent University or for additional support please contact LRJ Foundation for resources.
The presentation has both an AM and PM session.
AM Session- 9:15am-10:00am
PM Session- 6:00pm-7:00pm

Desktop Stores Donates Profits to Charity
Our students donated $2,803 from their DTS proceeds! An anonymous donor at Save the Children Charity is matching all donations so through the generosity of WBMS students, $5,606 will go toward famine relief in Africa.
DTS and a snow storm on the same day made things a bit challenging, but our students and staff pulled together to help such a worthy cause! Thank you to all who were involved in making this event a success!

Classroom Supplies Needed
Greetings Parents!
We hope that you and your student are excited for a wonderful holiday season and winter break! During the holiday season, some families choose to bring small gifts or tokens of appreciation to teachers and staff. Your PTA reached out to teachers and administrators to see if there were ways that parents and students could help with normal classroom consumable supplies. The below list was sent by teachers of things that they use in classrooms every day. If you choose to give to teachers and staff this year, we wanted to give you some ideas of items normally needed. All donations can be dropped off in the Front Office. Thank you for everything that you do to support your student, your teachers, and Webb Bridge Middle School!

Alpharetta Jr. Raiders Girls Lacrosse, Inc. is a non-profit organization created to grow girls lacrosse in the Alpharetta community. Additionally, the program is the official girls lacrosse feeder program for Alpharetta High School. It is a volunteer organization comprised of parents and community members who govern and organize the program. The program is dedicated to fielding competitive teams and preparing its players to excel at the high school level. The program has both a Fall and a Spring season and is comprised of four teams – 2nd/3rd, 4th/5th, 6th/7th (Junior) and 7th/8th (Senior). We welcome all players regardless of skill level. Players are placed on teams based on both their age and their skill level.
The Cotillion of Alpharetta
Last chance to register!!! The Cotillion of Alpharetta is coming January 2018!!!!!
We are excited to start our classes on Sunday, January 7 at The Metropolitan Club! Come have fun with us while learning dance and etiquette!
This is not your grandmother’s cotillion! The Seventh Graders will learn basic ballroom dancing and popular dance (Shag, Swing, Free Style, Line and Slow), as well as many important social and professional skills the students will need to know now and throughout their lives. The Seventh Grade class will culminate in a Parents Showcase displaying the Program as parents observe all their child has learned. Students will also enjoy a 50's Party filled with games, contests, dancing and pizza!
For Eighth Graders, the classes will review the basics taught in year one, and the students will learn many new dances including Latin, Swing and Hustle. An extensive Table Manners segment will further develop your child’s social graces. Dating, interviews and making conversation will also be covered. The Eighth Grade Program will culminate in a Dinner Dance that brings all of the students’ new skills into practice. New students are always welcome in 8th grade.
You can expect your child to gain confidence in our classes, and learn how to greet, shake hands and converse with adults—an all-important skill as the dating years approach. They will also discuss social media etiquette! But most of all, your teen will have fun!
