Osprey Weekly
October 16, 2020
Dear LES Families,
Most students are actively engaged daily in our live instruction and with their asynchronous work. We also want to note that many are engaged with their camera on and participating in class discussions appropriately. The teachers, paraeducators, support staff are working diligently to create meaningful lessons that keep students on their toes! We are so proud to be working with such a dedicated group of educators and students.
As we transition students back to the schoolhouse, please be patient with us. We want to ensure the continuity of learning for all of our students. We realize as students return we will need to slow down just a little to teach expectations and routines during the first week. As we have learned over the past seven months, our students are resilient.
Classroom teachers will communicate to keep you in the loop with any minor changes to schedules as we transition to the hybrid learning model. Please keep in mind that it might look slightly different for our virtual only learners. Know that teachers, administration and staff are working hard to keep continuity of learning for all of our students.
On Friday, November 6, 2020 each grade level team will host a Schoology Parent Information Session. Teachers will share information and answer questions for parents on how to navigate Schoology, access missing assignments, access the gradebook, Schoology during hybrid instruction, etc. Stay tuned for more information from your child's teacher.
If you have not had a chance to complete the placard request form below, please do so by Wednesday, October 21st, so we may prepare placards for distribution. Thank you.
Unity Day to raise awareness in support of bullying prevention and inclusion is Wednesday, October 21st. Please wear orange to show your support!
If you have a broken device that you need to swap out, please do so as soon as possible. Please contact the Main Office for further assistance if needed.
We have finalized lists for A/B day or virtual only for each student enrolled at LES. Each LES family will receive an email on Monday, October 19th at 4:00 p.m. to inform of your choice of A/B day or virtual only. If there are any discrepancies once you receive the information, please reach out to me at cfquickmcqueen@smcps.org.
Please stay tuned for more information about student safe return to school to include mask wearing expectations, water bottles, recess, breakfast, lunch, arrival/dismissal, early pick up, visitors, Green Notes, etc. If you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. Additionally, you may join me on Thursday, October 22nd at 9:00 a.m. for a Return to School Q&A Zoom. A meeting link will be sent via email.
Warmly,
Dr. Quick-McQueen
Principal

Red Ribbon Week focuses on supporting the nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.
When deciding on a character day costume to wear to school on October 29th, we ask that you avoid any costumes that perpetuate violence, have any blood, gore, scary masks, or contain any type of weapons. Props that come with costumes that are play weapons are not allowed in school. This includes, but is not limited to, toy guns, knives, swords, sickles, pitchforks, etc. Costumes should be worn to school. Costumes should allow students to go to the bathroom easily without assistance. Students may not wear costume masks to school. Only masks that protect from COVID 19 are allowed to be worn in school.
