From our 1st Grade Family to Yours, Happy Holidays!
Curriculum for the week of January 5th - 8th
Math--Measuring Length: Students will estimate, measure and compare length using non-standards units.
AT HOME MATH...
Use nonstandard objects (such as paper clips, pennies, toothpicks etc.) to measure the length of various objects. Ask your child questions such as "Why does it take more pennies than pencils to measure the length of the same table?"
Reading--Reread for Comprehension, Compare and Contrast
*compare and contrast two or more facts or details
Grammar--Contractions with NOT (didn't, isn't, couldn't, can't...)
Science--Demonstrate that air is all around us and observe that wind is moving air
AT HOME SCIENCE...
Ask your child, "What is weather and how does moving air change it?"
Spelling--Test on Friday, January 8th
Spelling Pattern: three letter blends (scr, str, spr, thr, spl)
Enter The 2016 Keller ISD Film Festival Jan. 5th - Feb. 29th
The festival is an opportunity for students to develop their visual literacy and expand their educational experience in Keller ISD by fostering the creativity, artistic, communication and technical skills required for producing a movie. Students have seven entry categories to choose from including: Story, Comedy, Music Video, Documentary, PSA Plus, and Animation.
Students have the chance to be honored at an Awards Ceremony on April 5, 2016, at the Alliance Cinemark XD Movie Theater. Students can win trophies, certificates, prizes, and more!
