Youth ACT 71
What is ACT 71?
Act 71, which was signed into law in June 2014, requires school entities to:
- adopt a youth suicide awareness and prevention policy
- provide 4 hours of professional development every 5 years in youth suicide awareness and prevention for educators and school personnel in grades 6-12
Objectives:
- Discuss the prevalence of suicide
- Review the Pennsylvania Youth Suicide Prevention Plan
- Review links to bullying, substance abuse, etc.
- Identify risk factors, warning signs, protective factors
- Inventory and recognize resources
Outcomes:
- Articulate differences between warning signs and risk factors
- Develop a knowledge of the Pennsylvania Youth Suicide Prevention Plan and Local Youth Suicide Plan
- Create an action plan specific to your role
