The Bears' Blog....May 1
Pine Street Elementary School
Principal's Message
Wow! It is quite the unique weather we have been having, but spring is finally in the air. It is hard to believe May is here and the end of the school year is quickly approaching! All of our teachers are working hard to complete the program of studies for their classes and are preparing for the final assessment pieces of your child’s learning. This is a very busy time of year at our school with final exams and all of the year-end special events just around the corner.
I want to give a big 'thank-you' to our School Advisory Council for their support in making Pine Street Elementary an amazing place for students to learn. These dedicated parents have done a terrific job, so thank you for all of your dedication and support in making our school such a great student-centered place of learning.
We will be holding our annual School Advisory Council elections for all council positions on June 7 at 6:00 pm. If you are interested in volunteering for our School Advisory Council next year, please attend. Without parents stepping up and volunteering for next year’s school council, we may not be able continue to do all of the great things going on at the school. We need you!
Spring is also a time of review and studying for upcoming exams. Assisting your child to review for their upcoming exams will help them reach and demonstrate their true potential. Setting a regular time and location for review will facilitate effective and productive use of their time and help them be the best they can be.
Have a great May - June is just around the corner.

Confident Kids
For children to develop confidence and strong social-emotional skills, they need opportunities to experience peer interactions in a safe and encouraging environment. Confident Kids—from the Strathcona County Family Resource Network—is a free, interactive program for students in grades 1 to 3. Parents will also receive tools and information to continue skill building at home. The program runs Wednesdays from April 20 to May 25; 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Ardrossan Recreation Complex. There’s no cost but advance registration is required for each week.
Covid Info

Pine Street Elementary Needs You!
The School Advisory Council provides parents and the school community with a means to consult with and provide advice on school policies to the Principal on matters pertaining to the school. The School Advisory Council also provides an opportunity for parents to facilitate fundraising activities for the school that can enhance the educational programming for our students above the basic level provided by Alberta Education.
We have several positions opening up for next year’s School Advisory Council. If you are interested, please attend our next meeting on May 10 for more information about the positions. Elections will be held at the June 7 School Advisory Council Meeting beginning at 6pm. Together we do great things at Pine Street Elementary - and we need your help filling these important roles for next year’s School Advisory Council.
Student Transportation for 2022-2023
Student Transportation: 2022-23 registration is now open!
Planning to use Student Transportation in the 2022-23 school year? If so, make sure your child is registered so Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) can plan routes and send your child a bus pass before the first day of school.

For those students who did not indicate needing transportation service through the pre-enrolment process and want to now register, simply contact EIPS Student Transportation at 780-417-8151 or email st@eips.ca.
For more information about EIPS Student Transportation visit www.eips.ca/transportation.
