From the Principal's Desk...
Return to me with your whole heart
Dear Parents and Guardians,
It was very good to be able to return to school today in person. It was particularly important for all of us because today is Ash Wednesday. All of our students, faculty and staff were able to go to Mass today and receive ashes as we begin this holy season of Lent.
Fr. Pete gave a remarkable homily today. He reminded us about the critical importance of sacrifice, especially a spiritual sacrifice. He told us that over the past year we have all learned a great deal about real sacrifice; wearing masks, keeping our distance, being away from family. We know in very real ways what sacrifice looks and feels like. The challenge Fr. Pete placed before us now is to look deep inside ourselves and find that which separates us from God. This must be our Lenten observance.
I want to ask everyone to pray for our full return to health. Our beginning vaccinations last week are a big step forward. Please do all that you can outside of school to help keep one another safe and well. Also, please pray for the success of our Principal Search process. The committee will be conducting interviews this Saturday.
The first reading for today is from the Prophet Joel (Jl. 2:12). The prophet tells us, “Even now, says the LORD, return to me with your whole heart. Lent is the time which the Church sets aside for us to do just this. We are challenged as Fr. Pete said to give up that which separates us from a deeper relationship with our God.
May this season of Lent help us to know and understand all that we have learned during this pandemic about sacrifice. In this way, may we work to become more fully what God intends us to be. May we be able to more fully embrace the prophet’s call; return to me with your whole heart.

Performing Arts Assistant(s) Needed
Amy Eyers, our Performing Arts Leader, is looking for an assistant (or two) to help with rehearsals each week, coordinate volunteers, and help send emails.
St. John's Performing Arts Program (grades 6-8) is a wonderful extra curricular for our students and without additional adult volunteers, it may not be possible to continue the program next year. Ideally, we would like to find someone this year so they could learn a little about how things work and then be able to step in next year.
If interested in becoming a volunteer assistant, please contact Amy Eyers at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Inclement Weather Procedures and Busing
Morning preschool and half day kindergarten will be cancelled for a two hour delay. Please refer to page 19 of your Student Handbook (accessible on the school website under the Parent tab) for further information.
***For students that are bused by another school district (Mt. Healthy or Fairfield), you are expected to follow the announcements of Northwest Local Schools. Please note that if Mt. Healthy and/or Fairfield Schools are CLOSED and we are open, your student(s) will NOT have busing to and from school that day.

Blue Jay Gallery
Kindergarten students along with preschoolers received their ashes this morning after the 8:30 mass. Fr. Pete encouraged each of them to say a prayer for their families each night during Lent. Grades 6-8 attended the 8:30 am mass and grades 1-5 had a separate mass at 1:00 pm.
Sixth grade students have been studying hieroglyphics and wrote their names using the ancient Egyptian writing system. Can you guess what this piece says?
Box Tops Collection Next Week
It's time for another Box Tops collection!
Wednesday, Feb. 24 - Friday, Feb. 26
Please send to school any clipped Box Tops in either a ziploc bag or envelope with your child's name and teacher's name written on it.
The Box Tops that are blue and say "SCAN YOUR RECEIPT" should not be sent to school. The Box Top Program is transitioning to a scan only system. When purchasing products that have the new style "Scan Only" label, you must download the Box Tops App on your smart phone and scan your receipts. Be sure to assign St. John the Baptist School as your organization.
Thank you for your continued support of this program which allows for the purchase of fun recess equipment for our students.
