Fab Friday @ FLES!
Thank you School Board -- It's Wisconsin School Board Week!
Throughout the year, locally elected board members devote a significant amount of their time and energy to our public schools because they believe in the importance of strengthening our students and our communities. In addition to attending meetings, they spend countless hours preparing for meetings, studying issues, and participating in professional development.
Our deepest appreciation is extended to our Board (Mr. Paul Bernard, Mr. Blair Rogacki, Mr. Marcus Packard, Mr. David Marquardt, and Ms. Christine VanDerGeest) who provides the public voice in public education. Please join us in recognizing and thanking our local school board members for their work, leadership, and public service during Wisconsin School Board Week, Oct. 2-8.
Salutes
We thank those individuals who shared their time with us to help update the following two policies:
Wellness Policy: Jay Benton, Lisa Bibik, Nathan Heinritz, Audrey Lawson, and Ryan Lenfesty
School-Sponsored Student Publications and Productions: Rachel Meyers and Jamie Wolski
Discussion & Action
We welcome Tom Hass (officially!), Deb Wehrhahn (RMS long-term substitute), and the re-welcoming of Paige Schneider (paraprofessional at FLES).
Discussed:
Estimated Equalized Property Values
School Start Date possible Waiver - By state law, public schools cannot start prior to September 1st. Because September 1st is on a Friday next year, the Hartford Area Consortium is discussing an earlier start date for the 2023-24 school year. This would allow students and staff to ease back into the school year. Board members were favorable to beginning early, and expressed a desire to be consistent with the Hartford Area. An approved waiver is required for this to occur. Villalobos will keep members updated on the consortium’s decision and progress.
The following items were discussed and approved:
- All Staff Wellness Incentive Proposal
- Co-Curricular Handbook
- Return to School Plan: School Board Meeting Format
Private School Transportation
Classified Staff Leave Proposal
Policies: October 24
Budget & Annual Meeting Prep: October 24
Annual Meeting - October 31st
On October 31st, we will have our regularly scheduled school board meeting followed by our annual meeting at 7pm. The annual meeting is a special meeting in which residents are able to vote! The following items are examples of items that are voted on at the annual meeting.

News to Use from the Director of Pupil Service: Cyndi Tomich
Dear Holy Hill Area School District Families,
I am so excited that Fall has finally. As we begin to get into our routines with our students I wanted to share with you some general information that will be helpful for you to know.
Evaluation and IEP meetings:
The Holy Hill Area School District is pleased to continue to offer evaluation and/or IEP meetings virtually as this has allowed flexibility with scheduling for both staff, students and our families. If you would prefer to have our child's meeting held in person please let your child's special education teacher know and we are happy to honor these requests.
Immunization Reminder:
Below are the immunizations that are recommended for your child depending on his/her age. The district asks that you please update your child’s immunizations as soon as possible. Parents can use the student immunization record form attached https://www.dhs.wisconsin.gov/forms/f0/f04020l.pdf to update your child’s immunizations or complete the waiver section within this form. The district asks that you please provide a copy of your child’s most recent immunizations or complete the waiver section of the student immunization form to make certain we maintain compliance within the district. If you have any questions please feel free to contact Jodie Dietrich at 262-628-2380.
OCTOBER IS DOWN SYNDROME AWARENESS MONTH
Here are a few facts about Down Syndrome
October is Down Syndrome Awareness month; its purpose is to raise public awareness of this common disorder and advocate for acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome.
Down syndrome is named for Dr. John Langdon Down, who wrote the most prominent paper describing the disorder in the 1860s. The name Down syndrome was not standardized until 1975.
Down syndrome is far and away the most common condition involving chromosomes, occurring approximately in one out of every 691 births.
More than 400,000 people are living with Down syndrome in the United States.
The most common type of Down syndrome is trisomy 21, which means an extra copy of the 21st .It is not hereditary. The other two types are translocation and mosaicism, which account for around 5% of cases.
Each person with Down Syndrome has different talents and the ability to thrive.
Individuals with Down Syndrome are living long, happy lives. The life expectancy for these individuals has increased from 25 years in 1980 to over 60 years today.
Students with Down syndrome are now included in many classrooms across the country. In the past, special needs classes were the only option for learners with Down syndrome, but today most experts recommend full or partial inclusion in many standard classes.
While individuals with Down Syndrome experience cognitive delays, they are often mild to moderate. Most people with Down Syndrome lead fulfilling and productive lives.
