Family Literacy Night: Monday, September 24th from 6:30-8:00 p.m.

Bring the family and join us for Family Literacy Night on the Sept. 24th. The theme for the night will be "The Power of Mystery!" There will be fun rotations, refreshments, and every middle school student will leave with a special gift!

JA JobSpark Field Trip Permission Trip Forms: 8th Grade

Permission slips will be coming home for our 8th grade students to attend the Sept. 26 JobSpark Field Trip at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. This is an amazing opportunity for our eighth graders to explore the many career fields available. Please help make sure forms are signed and returned. Book Fair

Parent's: Our 1st Book Fair of the year "Enchanted Forest" will be Monday September 24th through Tuesday October 2. Please stop in during Literacy night and Parent /Teacher Conferences and help support your school library! There is also a link below to the online site if you can't stop in. The online book fair starts the 19th. You can also pre order copies of the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Save on taxes and have them shipped to the school FREE on the release date!

Student-Led Parent Conferences

Student-Led Parent Conferences will be held Tuesday, October 2nd from 11:00am -


Students will be bringing a sign-up form home for parents/guardians to select two

times for your conference. Be sure to indicate the times chosen as first & second

choice. Students MUST accompany parent/ guardian to these conferences. Report

Cards will be given out at these conferences.

Fall Sports Update

Results from last week:

The 8th grade football team picked up two wins. They defeated Stonybrook on Monday by a score of 48-0 and defeated Center Grove North on Thursday by a score of 36-0. They are currently leading their division of the MIIC Conference.

The 7th grade football team lost to Stonybrook by a score of 24-22 and lost to Center Grove North by a score of 6-0.

The volleyball teams both lost to Raymond Park and Center Grove Central by a scores of 2-0.

The tennis team competed against Westlane and Greenfield. They lost by scores of 5-0 and 4-1, respectively.

The tennis and cross country teams will compete in the MIIC Championships on Saturday, September 15. Good luck to both of those teams!

PINK OUT week was a success. Between shirt and tickets sales, we collected and donated $376. Thank you to everyone who participated and donated!!!

How important is attendance for student success?

The single most important factor for student achievement and graduation vs dropout rate is student attendance (Reid, 2006). The state of Indiana with the new ESSA Plan has defined a student with "model attendance" as missing no more than 7 days of school. Anything over 7 days is defined by the state as "chronic abseentism." We have challenged our students to do even better than that and set a goal of missing no more than 5 days of school this year.

We do understand that there are situations that arise where an absence can't be prevented. Please help communicate those reasons to the school by calling the main line at 532-6800 between 6:00-7:00 a.m. to report the absence.

Excused Absences Include:

1. Personal illness or injury (please drop off physician's notes to front desk)

2. Death in the immediate family

3. Attendance at a family funeral

4. Religious observances required by church officials

5. Serving as a page in the legislature

6. Court appearance/court detention

7. Working at polls

21st Century Scholars

The Indiana 21st Century Scholarship Program is an early commitment college promise program funded by the Indiana Commission for Higher Education (CHE), offering income-eligible Hoosier students up to four years of paid tuition at an eligible Indiana two-year and/or four-year higher education institution.

Students must be enrolled before June 30th of their 8th grade year.

P.E. Uniforms For Sale at the Bookstore

The bookstore will be open every morning before school and during P.E. classes next week for students who still need to purchase P.E. uniforms. The cost is $20 and includes a shirt, shorts, and CMS string bag.
