Meet Esme Ruiz!
LCISD was fortunate to find a certified Bilingual educator in early January, Ms. Esme Ruiz! A recent graduate of West Texas A&M University, Ms. Ruiz was hired by the district to begin working within Lubbock-Cooper this semester with a plan in place to move Ms. Ruiz to Central Elementary next year to teach in a Bilingual classroom. For the time being, we get to be blessed by Ms. Ruiz, too!
Beginning tomorrow, January 29, Ms. Ruiz will work on the East Elementary campus Monday-Thursday of each week to serve our English Language Learners. She will report to Central Elementary on Fridays to work with the Bilingual teachers who are currently serving in the program.
What a wonderful and exciting time! While we will be sad to see Mrs. Castillo return to her work at South Elementary full-time, both campuses will benefit with the addition of Ms. Ruiz to the team! For the next couple of weeks, Mrs. Castillo will maintain her current schedule, coming to East on Tuesdays and Thursdays to introduce Ms. Ruiz to the students and staff and to ease the transition process.
Please join me in welcoming Ms. Ruiz to the East Elementary family! We're so glad to have her as part of our team!
Here is a note from Ms. Ruiz, introducing herself:
Hello!
My name is Esme Ruiz. I recently graduated from West Texas A&M University where I obtained my bachelors degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. I believe the future lies within our hands, therefore it is our responsibility to mold the minds of future generations to come. I’m anxious to keep learning and growing with the Lubbock Cooper Community. Education is my passion and I’m very excited to take on this new journey.
Congratulations, Student Council Leadership Team!

Congratulations to these leaders who worked hard to prepare for the election process, which included the composition of an essay about leadership and delivering a speech about their desire to serve our campus.
We know that these leaders will work diligently to serve the students of Lubbock-Cooper East Elementary and our community.
Classroom Representatives for all 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade homerooms will be elected in the near future!
Watch DOG Teacher Survey
Just a quick reminder about the Watch DOG scheduling survey! The link we got at the meeting was incorrect, so many of you have emailed asking for the correct web address. You can access the Watch DOG survey here:
http://watchdogs.tbgmanageit.com/defaultForm.asp?page=portOnlineFormSubmission&FormID=19
Our code for the daily schedule survey is: TX3440
Don't forget - please do not limit volunteers to specific days of the week. Because most of our parents work, we cannot limit parent volunteers to only one or two days. If they have a desire to connect with our campus, we'll take it!
Since responses to all questions are required in order to submit your form, you will need to select "Any Day" in the drop-down list for the two questions that ask you to select a specific day.

Speak Up! - Technology Survey
Lubbock-Cooper would love to hear from you as part of our Speak Up program participation! As we make plans to move forward with technology integration in our district, information from parents and community stakeholders is a big piece of determining next steps! LCISD has a goal of getting feedback from at least 50% of our Pirate families.
To access the survey, click here:
https://speakup.tomorrow.org/ChooseQuestionSet.aspx
Select the appropriate role (Parent or Community Member) from the drop-down menu; the survey is also available in Spanish should you prefer to utilize that option. You will be prompted to enter the zip code for our campus (79423). Then, you'll be asked to complete the comprehensive survey. This survey is open until January 31, 2019.
