Deerfield Elementary
Weekly Happenings
February 23rd - 29th
Dear Deerfield Families,
The All School Field Trip was a huge success! It was a great movie and the entire student body displayed amazing leadership today!
Make A Blanket Day
What: Make a Blanket Day: Walled Lake/Novi presented by Kroger
When: Saturday, March 28, 2020, 12:00-5:00 p.m.
Where: Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi, MI
Who: Residents, students, companies, and organizations of Walled Lake, Novi, and other surrounding communities
Why: Every year, 30,000 kids in Michigan have to stay in the hospital for extended periods of time. They all deserve color, comfort, and connection. At this event, we have a goal to make 1,000 fleece blankets and each one with a video message of support for the patient that receives it!
Black History Month Trivia Night Was A BLAST!
We were so happy to see several families attend our first Black History Month Trivia Night this past week. Thank you to all who attended. It was great to see so many kids show off their knowledge about several important African Americans. A huge thanks to Tara Michener and Krissy Johnson for organizing this event and to their helpers Jason Michener, Amy Garcia, and Katie Faysal. We would also like to thank Ms. Schumaker and Ms. Taylor for joining in the fun.
Deerfield Science Fair Is Coming - Thursday, February 27th from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
WE ARE IN NEED OF SEVERAL MORE VOLUNTEER LISTENERS SO THAT STUDENTS CAN PRESENT THEIR PROJECTS! Please consider signing up, even if your child has a project in the fair. We only need about 20 minutes of your time. If you would like to volunteer, please signup through the Signup Genius below:

March Is National Reading Month
Watch for the March Is Reading Month calendar that will be coming home this week.
How do you get your kids to read? Make it FUN! The Deerfield PTO March is Reading Month Action Team and Ms. Taylor have put together an optional, fun reading activity calendar for the month of March to primarily be used at home (only a few of the activities are school-based) to encourage students to read. There is a different, fun reading activity for every day of the month. Students that choose to use the calendar will earn rewards based on the number of activities completed. In order to earn reading rewards, you must complete the calendar by MARCH 31st. Please have your student turn their completed calendar in to Ms. Taylor in the Media Center.
Reading Ambassadors
*SPOTS ARE STILL AVAILABLE* March 2nd - 5th. There are classes that still have spots available for a parent/grandparent/family member to come in and read. Bring in your child's favorite book to read to his/her class during media time! KIDS love this. Sign up through this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0f4fa8af23a1fb6-reading

Novi Educational Foundation
Are you looking for ways where your valuable time can make a HUGE impact? The Novi Educational Foundation (NEF) impacts EVERY student in the Novi Community School District and NEEDS the teamwork of volunteers to cover all the bases. We are looking to fill the roster for our IMPACT TEAM, which consists of participating on one of our seven committees, joining our Board of Trustees or simply adding your name to our volunteer list to act as a pinch hitter when needed. Talents in finance, legal, marketing, fundraising and/or event-planning are never benched. Our impact is only as large as our roster. We’ll have an IMPACT TEAM informational breakfast on Friday, February 28th at 7:30 a.m. to discuss our mission, committees and ways to help.
For more information or to RSVP, please visit our website: novieducationalfoundation.org/impactteam, or contact us at NEF@novik12.org.
Regards,
Mrs. Julie Bedford EdS
