Message From Mr. Mitchell
Wow, it is so energizing to have all of the students back into the building! On Wednesday, we welcomed the incoming freshmen to Sherwood High School, and they did a great job getting acquainted with the school and their classes. On Thursday, all 1700+ students had their first day of the school year and it was amazing! Our "Welcome Back" assembly was lively with great facilitation from our leadership students, and outstanding performances from our Mixolydian choir group, Bowmen Cheer, and Arrows Dance teams. Our athletic teams have started their competition seasons, as well as our marching band practicing extensively, and our theater program getting ready to hold auditions soon. It's going to be a great year at SHS!
As it is every year, our traffic situation will take a little bit to sort itself out and become more efficient. Thursday was definitely hectic with all of the students arriving for the first day, but the wait and back-up was noticeably less on Friday. This will naturally continue through the next couple of weeks, and there are steps that we are taking as a school to improve the process, such as improved signage and monitoring traffic times and rates to find the points that need improvement.
The traffic patterns are a team effort and we ask your cooperation in helping to make it as efficient as possible. When you are dropping your student off in the morning, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE move as far forward as possible before they exit your car. Simply moving forward before students exit moves the entire line forward, both on our campus and out on Haide and Elwert roads. Again, please help support everyone involved in making this go smoothly by moving forward to drop off your student. Thank you!
Have a great weekend, and Go Bowmen!

Schedule Change Requests
Students who wish to request a schedule change must complete a schedule change request form. There will be very little room for movement or changes. Schedules are subject to change by counselors until the first day of school.
Due to the complexity and size of the schedule, schedule changes will only be allowed for the following reasons:
Incomplete schedule
Inappropriate placement (such as Geometry if a student hasn’t completed Algebra)
Errors such as an A and B section during the same trimester or the B section before the A section
Elective changes may be requested for electives in the same period/trimester only. You may not request to rearrange any or all of your assigned courses to different periods. LINK to Master Schedule of Elective options each period.
Schedule changes will not be made for any of the following reasons:
Teacher changes
Switching class periods
Requesting a different lunch
Requests based on involvement in athletics
We will begin accepting Schedule Change Requests once schedules have been released, but changes will not be made until after school begins. Schedule changes cannot be requested by phone or email. Please note that very few schedule change requests will be granted. Counselors will not be available to meet with students about their schedules until after the first week of school. The last day to change your schedule without a Withdrawal/F is Thursday, September 7th, 2023.
Parking and Parking Permits
The parking permit application is only accessible from a Sherwood School District student Google account. The easiest way to access the application is to have the student applying access the application on their District issued Chromebook. The Parking Permit application for Juniors and Seniors is currently available, and contains further information about the permitting process. Sophomores may begin applying on Monday, September 11th. Please note the following items:
- The fee for the permit must be paid before the permit will be issued. Once the form is complete and the fee is paid, permits may be picked up in the main office.
- The front lot is for permitted seniors, ADA parking, and visitors only during the school day. All other students with permits must park in the upper lots on all school days. While the front lot is for permitted seniors only, it has limited capacity. When it is full, permitted seniors must then park in the upper lots They may not create their own spaces or park in visitor spots as an alternative.
- Parking enforcement will begin on Wednesday, September 6th. This means that all students must have their permit visible on their dash or rear-view mirror, be parked in an appropriate student parking spot (not in a visitor spot), and be parked in the correct student lot. The first ticket is a $25 fine, and all further tickets are $50 each.
