Cheverus Catholic
Celebrated the 5th Annual Gala
Thank you for your Participation
On behalf of the entire community of Cheverus Catholic School, I want to thank everyone for the generous support of our fundraising effort, the Fifth Annual Cheverus Catholic School Gala. This year, with your help, we were able to raise over $108,000.00.
This fundraising effort insures that we can continue to provide an education that remains established in the tradition of the Sisters of Providence. We are proud of the tradition of academic excellence, and the importance we place on delivering works of love, mercy and justice to the larger community.
Past support has enabled us to successfully implement the Reading Street Program, install a new playground, put in a security system, make renovations to our gymnasium and bathrooms and to provide financial assistance to our families. With the proceeds from the Fifth Annual Gala we will be able to begin to fund our fire safety upgrades as well as to continue to increase tuition assistance and merit scholarship.
We are extremely grateful and honored for our many our supporters. We hope that you continue to partner with us as we strive in our efforts to serve the students of the Greater Malden community, to shape their lives, and to help them grow in their faith. I thank you again on behalf of our students and families for those who play such an important role in the Cheverus Catholic family.
May God Bless You,
Thomas P. Arria, Jr.

Saint Mother Theodore Guerin Award Recipients
"On March 12, 2020, the world shut down. Schools, stores, restaurants, movie theatres, and gyms closed their doors....Faculty and staff of Cheverus Catholic school went home that day and started planning for virtual lessons. Platforms such as Facebook, google classroom, and a new thing called Zoom, to name a few, were instantly and expertly utilized to continue teaching virtually... But more importantly, teachers used these platforms to stay in touch with their students, to make sure they were ok. They did so, because Cheverus teachers don't just teach. Like mother Theodore Guerin, the foundress of the Sisters of Providence, our school's first teachers, they love the children first, then teach them.....Everyone went above and beyond and did something that was not in their job description. For these reasons, tonight we honor the faculty and staff of Cheverus Catholic School."

School Notes
Opening of School
We opened school this year on September 1 with 400 students. This was very encouraging to have “bounced back” given the challenges of the last academic year when we saw numbers drop dramatically. We continue to follow all the recommended COVID-19 protocols, and more, to ensure the safety of our students.
We celebrated the opening of school with a Mass of the Holy Spirit on September 16. This year, as is the tradition here at Cheverus Catholic, we celebrate the first Friday of each month with mass.

New Faces
Father Mario Guarino completed his tenure as parish administrator in early September. We thank him for his service to Sacred Hearts Parish and to Cheverus and wish him well in his next mission. At the same time, we welcomed Father Alejandro Lopez-Cardinale.
Father Alejandro comes to us from Saint Benedict’s in Somerville. Father will continue to serve as pastor there while assuming his duties as parish administrator at Sacred Hearts.

Book of Remembrance
Within the Church, the month of November is a time for us to remember and pray for those friends and family who have gone before us. We mark this time at Cheverus by placing a Book of Remembrance in the main corridor and invite students, faculty, and staff to place the names of loved ones in it. We remember them each day in prayer.
