From the Desk of Mr. O'Shea

Marshal Geiselman

11th Grader, Marshal Geiselman, was in a very serious car accident over the weekend. We are all praying and pulling for him. Please keep Marshal and his family in your thoughts and prayers. Parents talk with your kids and see how they are doing and if we can help in any way let us know.

Talk Amongst Yourselves.....Project Based Learning

Students in Mr. Carroll's business classes are starting businesses! (Knight 'n Day Cafe and a mobile concession cart). Mr. Carroll is utilizing Project Based learning, which allows students hands on experience running a business. Students are purchasing goods, keeping inventory, analyzing sales data/profit analysis and more. Furthermore, they have started a business club which is donating $300 to Hurricane Mathew victims in Haiti. They are donating it through an organization called "Compassion". The kids chose this because the money can go specifically to children and families that need help. Joey Vershum was instrumental in getting this organized and achieved in a short time. They are also raising funds to support scholarships for students which we hope to award in the sporing at our academic awards night.

You can email a scanned copy of your photograph to koshea@otsegoknights.org or physically bring a copy of your picture to the Legion or the High School Main Office. Thank you for helping us honor our local veterans.

Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Ups

Conferences are approaching. They will be held over two days Wednesday November 2nd (4:00pm - 8:00pm) and Thursday November 3rd (10:00am - 8:00pm).

Parent Teacher Conference Sign-Up Link - CLICK HERE

Feedback last year was very positive about on line sign-ups so we are using SignUp Genius again for you to conveniently sign yourself up to meet with your child's teacher during conferences. I have created a short video tutorial to show you just how quick and easy it is. HOW TO USE SIGN-UP GENIUS VIDEO TUTORIAL.

If you do not wish to use the online tool to sign up for conferences, call the office at (419) 823-4381 and we can help you out over the phone. Thanks.

I just want to remind all students and parents that all of our courses are now semester courses, meaning at the end of this semester they will receive a (.5) half a credit for passing the class. If they do NOT pass the class then they will not receive that credit and will need to recover it at a later time. This is different in years past where they could fail the first semester and pass the second semester at a high enough percentage that they could ultimately pass the class. The problem with that is we would have to wait an entire year to find out whether or not a student passed or failed leaving us further behind to help a student recover. Please contact the office if you have questions about this. It is critical that your child passes at the semester in order to receive credit. Otherwise, they will need to make it up.

Checking Grades

We just passed the midpoint of the first quarter. Teachers will have their grade books updated by Monday and we will be sending out the online sign-up for Parent Teacher Conferences next week. All coaches have been sent the official D/F list to communicate with their players about their grades, and teachers will be reaching out to students that are failing or are in danger of failing. Please contact your child's teacher with any concerns you have and make sure you check their grades in Powerschool regularly.

Want to check your students grades on your phone?

Use the PowerSchool app!

Using a web browser on your mobile device won’t give you the best experience on our PowerSchool website. PowerSchool makes an app for iPhones and Android phones that makes it easy to check your students grades on your phone.

Update on Jordan Rizziello

Jordan is currently recovering from injuries sustained in an automobile accident a week ago. He has been transferred out of the ICU and is beginning his journey to what we hope will be a full recovery. Please continue to keep Jordan and his family in your thoughts and prayers as they have no doubt helped.

Congrats Mr. Furlong!

Bob Furlong, long time Science Teacher at Otsego High School, is being honored by the Ohio School Board Association (OSBA). He is receiving the "Who's Who Excellence Award" for Outstanding Leadership. Congrats Bob and thank you for all you do for our students and staff.

Immunizations - Letter

Jane Gray our school nurse will be contacting the parents of any students left that have not confirmed their updated immunizations via letter. Students on file that are not updated received letters earlier this week.

ANY students that do not have this record in the office or that have not confirmed an appointment to complete this, will begin to be sent home starting next week and they will be unable to attend school until they have it.

Immunization Letter from Jane Gray

All 12th grade students need to have TWO doses if they have not received one as of now. Only one dose is required.

PLEASE bring proof of Immunization to school or have Doctor's Office fax to (419) 823-1397.

Attention all parents and students. There have been stories in the news and on social media in regards people wearing clown masks and coming around schools to induce panic and or scare people. Some of these incidents have involved threats of harm.

Although there has been NO threats made specifically to Otsego Local Schools we are PROHIBITING any student from wearing one on or around school property. Failure to comply with this may result in a child being suspended and charges pressed on them, and adults will be immediately dealt with through the Wood County Sheriff's Office.

Powder Puff Football

If you are interested in signing up for Powder Puff, please sign up on the clipboard outside of Miss Pierce's room. We are looking for girls willing to play, boys willing to ManLead, and volunteers willing to coach.

The deadline to sign up is Friday, October 14th. At that point, you will receive information regarding shirts and practices.

Homework Cafe

Homework Cafe takes place every Wednesday after school from 2:20pm-3:30pm in the HS Library/Media Center. This is a great time to finish up any projects students are working on, study for upcoming tests or quizzes, or even receive tutoring from fellow classmates. All after school activities on Wednesdays will not start until 3pm to allow student athletes to be in Homework Cafe for 30 minutes before practice/games.

Students who attend Homework Cafe are expected to sign in. The office is then tracking the student's lowest grade and acknowledging them after 7 days if he/she has brought that grade up.

UPDATE: We have updated our phone system so that our main voice prompts will allow callers to press option 5 for the transportation department. Option 5 will ring extension 3156. If you have questions please email our Transportation Director, Eva Vasher

Parents please talk to your child(ren) about eating/drinking on the bus to and from school. Simply put, it is prohibited and against the law. Our transportation department will be enforcing this rule and I do not want kids getting tripped up by this. Despite past practices current Ohio Law prohibits eating and drinking on the bus.

Athletics Department

Every Wednesday, ALL sports will wait until 3:00pm to start their practices. This will allow for students to seek out teachers after school for help with their school work and not feel as rushed to get out to practice as well as allow our athletes to possibly get involved in other clubs and organizations which will be allowed to meet after school during this time. Athletic teams may hold study tables after school on Wednesdays until 3:00pm.

The Athletics Department will also begin running a weekly eligibility list identifying all athletes that have either a "D" or "F" in a class and notify coaches and players. Coaches will be expected to work with their athletes to get these kids off the eligibility list.

‘Otsego Athletics’ is on Twitter and Facebook. Follow for high school scores and other athletic department information.

***For the most up to date Schedules please go to the main HS Website, these only get posted once per week and may not reflect changes. High School Website with updated Dates
