Una nota de la Sra. Larson/ A note from Mrs. Larson
We just finished our first FULL week of school. It is so wonderful to have our students on the playground and in the classrooms. I have had the opportunity to observe a lot on both the playground and in the classroom. Being away from the routine for over a year and a half can be really challenging. In our first few days out, students didn't remember what a bell was. As the recess bell chimed, none of the students moved off the yard. At first, I thought it odd but realized they had not heard it in the long term. With my megaphone in tow, I had to remind them, "That's the end of recess; please line up." Our first two weeks have been filled with working on routines and appropriate classroom behaviors.
When we work together as partners, it helps alleviate unwanted behaviors at school.
A couple of things we are asking for:
Please check your student's backpacks for toys, including trading cards. These become a distraction, especially if they get lost. Make sure your student has a water bottle with their name on it. Boy, do we already have a collection after 9 days! Talk to your child about keeping their hands to themselves.
Finally, cell phones. Cell phones are to be off and in backpacks during school hours. I have caught several students with cell phones on the yard and even in the classroom. You bring a cell phone to school at your own risk. We take zero liability if it is lost or stolen. We understand the purpose of cell phones and want to work with you to eliminate the problem.
Thank you all for your partnership in making McKinley AWESOME!

COVID Questions
I wanted to let you know that our updated Student & Family COVID Safety Handbook has been posted to the COVID-19 Hub on our PCS website. Here's the link: https://www.petalumacityschools.org/Page/4961.
The Student & Family COVID Safety Handbook (Handbook) is intended to be a helpful resource for families to both understand our safety protocols and navigate the school year ahead. We will continue to update it regularly to reflect new changes in guidance throughout the year.
