PILLAR 5: DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES
SO YOU WANT TO RUN FOR CLASS OFFICER: TIPS AND TACTICS TO A SUCCESSFUL CAMPAIGN
CAMPAIGN: The secret to any good campaign is getting your name out to the student body. Once you've thought long and hard about what makes you the best candidate for the job, you'll want to find a way to make sure voters know you're the right choice.
- Slogan: You might want to consider crafting a catchy and easy slogan. This helps not only get your name out, but also brings a sense of what your personality is like. Ex: Name: "Royce" Slogan: "Roll with Royce for your next Class President"
- Build your Brand: In running for class officer, make sure to have your name out there. Posters, buttons, and maybe even T-shirts would definitely help in running a campaign. It doesn't matter if you bust out the markers or draft something in Photoshop as long as you keep your focus on making something eye-catching with a clear message.
- Public Speaking: Often times, candidates for class officers need to give a speech of some sort to his/her student body. If that makes you nervous, now's the time to practice. Record yourself on your phone or computer so you can hone in on your weaknesses and try again and again until you improve.
FIGHT A FAIR FIGHT: Be respectful to anyone running for the same position as you. You may be tempted to trash-talk a candidate who you don't think has motives as honest as your own, but don't do it. Remember who you are while running and remember to represent your school.
