PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora parents and whanau
Our winter sports programme in our school and at the various clubs in town started on Saturday. I would like to thank all of the parents who have volunteered to coach or manage the various teams that our children are involved with.
Covid 19 / Coronavirus
As always anyone who is unwell should not be at school.
If your child has a cough or a cold they must not be sent to school. They need to be kept at home until they have recovered completely. We are having to phone an increasing number of parents to pick their child up because they are unwell.
If you have a particular concern about your child, you can contact Healthline at 0800 611 116 or their GP for medical advice.
SCHOOL APP
Please download this app to your phone as it will become one of the important parts of our emergency contact procedure should we ever need to use it.
GOLF FUNDRAISER
A massive thank you to Amy Paetai and Megan Diprose for organising a fundraiser for the school at the Te Aroha Golf Club last Friday. A total of $1700.00 was raised which will be used to purchase materials to upgrade the senior adventure playground.
At some stage in the coming weeks we will have a working bee and will call on our parents to help with this project.

I wish to inform our community that, Mrs Dolores Maisey's husband, Gordon, passed away suddenly on Friday morning. Mrs Maisey has been a reliever at our school for many years and has been a great support for many of our teachers for a long time. She is known to so many of our past and present students.

Classroom Round Ups
The children have settled into the new reading routine well. We have spent the last week focussing on the sound letters make and not the Letteland name, as well as blending sounds to make and write words. This week our class phonics work will focus on i, n, m and d. In Maths we continue our learning about "time" with work on the days of the week and the introduction of the concept of o'clock. We have a daily handwriting focus following the Casey Caterpillar Programme. The writing prompts that we use for letter shapes will be posted on Seesaw. This week we explore Autumn in our Environment. We are holding our parent/whanau information afternoon with regard to Structured Literacy next Tuesday. A separate letter came home today in this regard.
Rm 2 Miss Green
We had a wonderful first week back. We have enjoyed getting to know students new to our class and they have settled in well.
This week in phonics we will focus on letters i, n, m, d. We will learn the sounds each letter makes and how to form each letter correctly. Our new reading programme is under way. Kids are loving the new books. I have sent some more info regarding our new reading programme on Seesaw. This is so you know what homework will look like from now on. If you have any questions please flick me a message. We begin our unit on time this week. Exploring days of the week, months of the year, seasons and ordering/ sequencing events in our day. We continue our inquiry and will be making our own map of the school. We will share with you on Seesaw.

In Mathematics we are continuing to build our add/sub strategies and are learning to give explanations for how our answers have been reached. Homework was outlined in last week's newsletter. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via email at mentwisle@tearohaprimary.school.nz or through the Seesaw message function.
Rm 6 Mrs Bankier
Mrs Bankier is making a great recovery and will soon be back at school. We look forward to welcoming her back to school. I know that she can't wait to be back in the classroom.
Rm 7 Mrs Paul
Welcome to week 2.Firstly, thank. You for all the lovely messages you sent on Friday. Be very proud of your children.
Last week In Topic we looked at the River Nile and began to look at the way the early Egyptians used their surroundings to sustain life. We will continue looking at this and link it to our lives. We will continue our new look Spelling programme which will take a few weeks to get used to. In Maths we continue with multiplication and divison and of course with learning times tables every night. This week it is the 6x table. For some people these are proving a real challenge and I am afraid to say that the only way maybe rote learning as boring as that may seem. They are a necessity. I have a busy week this week Ms Boyd will be in the room on Monday while I meet with our Leadership Team.

Rm 9 Mrs Gamble/Mrs Hodgetts.
An exciting week planned ahead. This week our focus will be on Jean Batten, Room 9 will be completing the Jean Batter - Aviator, School Kit. The kit includes a range of STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) activities that require the students to problem solve and crack codes to find a missing medal. This is a great way for us to work cooperatively together in teams and learn about one of New Zealand’s greatest aviators. Keep your eye on seesaw for posts on this.
Literacy: Guided reading groups continue from last week. Most groups have their novels now. Quick writes will be our focus in writing. Paying close attention to our editing and recrafting skills, ensuring our writing is grammatically correct.
Maths: We will begin to look at transformations, focusing on types of symmetry and revising/learning our multiplication and division facts.
Topic/Inquiry: For inquiry this term we will be focusing on kaitiakitanga and how we can replenish and sustain our environment. We will investigate what kaitiakitanga means and what this looks like through Maori myths and legends.
Homework: Weekly quiz, Mathletics - assigned tasks, reading 20 minutes each day.
Reminder: Netballers to bring their shoes to school for lunch time training on Tuesday.
