YMCA Principal's Leadership Award
On April 19th, Mrs. Rau had the privilege of escorting Ezra Bouchard to the annual YMCA Principal's Leadership Luncheon and award ceremony. The YMCA Principal's Leadership Award is designed to honor students in grades 5 or 8 who portray true leadership in their school communities by encouraging others, striving to do what's right, and showing persistence, determination, and grit in challenging situations.
Nominated by his teacher, Mrs. Rau, this is what she had to say:
"Ezra is an outstanding student. He works so hard and gives everything he does his best effort. He is kind, and caring, and is always willing to help a classmate in need. Ezra is the student that you can count on no matter what!"
Keep up the good work, Ezra!

Superintendent's Message
Dear Panther Families,
As we wrap up the 2022-2023 school year, I’d like to take this opportunity to give thanks to our amazing staff. Over the course of this year, they have adapted and overcome a multitude of situations; tackling the uncertainties that surrounded this year with dedication and determination. We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have had such a successful year with such a fantastic group of professionals.
In addition, I am extremely proud of the grit and persistence shown by our students in grades 3-8 during the State Testing Week. Their “I got this!” attitude and their ability to maintain a positive attitude were amazing and inspiring. We are so proud of you!
This year has brought about so many stories of success for our students, our staff, and our Panther community. We were so excited to be able to offer a few of our community events again; gathering for Stone Soup, the Christmas program, and hosting the Science Fair. We look forward to being able to accomplish even more next year!
Now, as we enter into May, we are gearing up for the end of this school year. Our teachers are wrapping up their grade-level units and exploring new opportunities for student learning outdoors. It is an incredibly busy month and I encourage everyone to make sure you continually check your school calendar in addition to our school Facebook page and website! You don't want to miss out on any of the fun that there is to be had in this last month!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Schnitzmeier

May is Sun Safety Month
The ABCs of Ultraviolet Light
There are three types of rays:
“A is for aging” - Ultraviolet A (UVA) – These rays penetrate the skin deeply and cause premature aging, wrinkling and skin cancer. The UVA rays have the longest wave length and trigger the production of a skin pigment called melanin – also known as tanning- which is the body’s way of protecting itself.
“B is for Burning” – Ultraviolet B (UVB) - These rays damage the skin’s surface and cause sunburns. These rays damage the skin’s epidermal cells and their DNA, which is responsible for making new cells. These rays are the main cause of skin cancer.
“C is for can’t Reach the Earth” - Ultraviolet C (UVC) rays do not penetrate the ozone layer, so they do not reach the earth.
Ultraviolet radiation increases 5% for every 1000 feet above sea level. UV radiation is greatest at equator as sun rays are more direct and at higher elevations where atmosphere is thinner.
Ultraviolet radiation can also increase on certain surfaces as rays are reflected back on you:
White sand - 15 to 18% Snow – 85% Water – 5%
Concrete surfaces like sidewalks – 10 to 12%
Up to 75 to 80% of the sun’s rays penetrate clouds, mist and fog.
It is estimated that 80% of our lifetime sun exposure has occurred by age 18 years. Protecting your skin during the first 18 years of your life can reduce your risk of skin cancer by up to 78%.
An estimated 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer in the course of a lifetime.
Remember no matter what your skin type, everyone must stay protected, because anyone can get skin cancer.
