3G- 3G sppeds up the network connection with downloads up to 2/Mbits when stationary or up tp 384 kb kb/s on the move. The following phone networks provide 3G:

  • O2
  • Orange
  • T-Mobile
  • Vodafone
  • Three

All the major manufactors make 3G which are:

  • Apple
  • Nokia
  • Motorola
  • Samsung
  • Blackberry
  • LG
  • Toshiba
  • Sony Ericsson
  • HTC

4g-4G is the next generation of mobile communication standards, picking up where 3G drops off and delivering higher download and upload speeds. The speed of 4g is up to 20Mb per second .

*Higher bandwidth
*Better repsonstime. 10 times better then 3G
*Works at 2.6GHz frequency which means better coverage even though it uses the same tower where the receiver and transmitter for 3G is.
*Less time to build 4G because it use the same tower and fibercables as 3Gs - they only have to upgrade the towers with 4G components.

* New technology which makes it more expansive than 3g

*not available everywhere in the UK

EDGE is a wireless network technology generally considered the next step in the 2G network. The name is an acronym that stands for Enhanced Data GSM Environment. Enhanced Data Rates for GSM Evolution is an alternative name that is also used. As both names suggest, EDGE is an improvement on the GSM wireless technology, which is second generation, or 2G, cell phone technology. , it is often referred to as 2.75G.EDGE is used for the purpose of wireless data transfer, such as sharing pictures and videos or browsing the Internet via a mobile phone connection. Data transfer speeds up to 384 kilobits per second (kbps).

Bluetooth-Bluetooth is a type of radio communication and networking protocol combined,

One advantage with Bluetooth working within a short range is that it only needs a tiny amount of radio power to work, it is ideal for battery operated devices such as mobile phones.A Bluetooth enabled phone will detect phones nearby and provide you with a list of usernames. You can then send a message, photograph or movie sitting on your phone to any of the usernames. They have to accept the offer.Another common use of Bluetooth is 'hand-free' operation of mobiles in the car. You wear a bluetooth headset that senses your mobile nearby. This allows you to talk using the mobile, but most importantly, keeping your hands on the steering wheel!
