In Person Ceremony Important Info!
Graduation will take place on Saturday, May 20th , at the Edmond First Baptist Church.
The address is: 1300 E 33rd St, Edmond, OK 73013
All graduating seniors need to arrive at 1:00pm in preparation for our 3:00 PM ceremony.
The facility will be in use until 12pm, so students will not be allowed into the building until 1pm. Rehearsal starts promptly at 1:30. Families will not be allowed in the auditorium until around 2:45pm. This will allow OVCA students time to practice for the ceremony and take a group photo of the graduates. Group photo will take place at 1:45pm!
Reminder to get your pictures in to Mrs. Houchin for our slideshow presentation. We will use those slides in both the recorded ceremony but also before the live ceremony.
Cap & gown info
You must have a cap/gown to participate in the Graduation Ceremony.
The cap/gown MUST be matte black with GOLD tassel.
You can purchase from any supplier. Here are two suggestions: https://honorsgraduation.com/ and https://www.amazon.com/graduation-cap-gown/s?k=graduation+cap+and+gown.
You may decorate your cap but please note the following guidelines below.
1. No questionable statements regarding political or religious issues.
2. Decorations must also follow guidelines set forth by facility where graduation is held.
3. No questionable symbols or graphics.
4. All decisions made by the administration on the day of graduation will stand and are non-negotiable.
Honors Graduate Info
Honors Graduates:
Valedictorians and Salutatorians: Cumulative grade point average is calculated through the fall semester of the senior year. This will be used to determine all graduation honors. If you have questions you should contact your HS Counselor.
We will be making the official announcements regarding our Honor Graduates soon! OVCA uses Fall 2022 grades for classifications. Please refer to the student handbook for questions.
>>>> Remember: Students must continue to pass their courses and gain the necessary credits to be eligible for May graduation in addition to attending any required State Testing. Participating in a graduation ceremony does not mean you have officially graduated. All students will need to continue to meet these requirements in order to be eligible to participate in May. Again, if you have questions regarding your status this should be discussed with your HS Counselor.
Frequently Asked Questions
1. May I bring food and/or drink (such as bottled water) to the ceremony or in the theater?
No, The FBC has a strict no food/drink policy (including bottled water). You will not be permitted to enter the auditorium with these items. Please make your guests aware of this policy before they attend. Remember, we are guests of this facility.
2. Will there be a photographer at the ceremony?
Yes, students will be asked to take an individual picture prior to the ceremony. This is free of charge. Information on how to obtain a copy will be given to the graduate that day.
3. Can I decorate my cap with glitter?
NO GLITTER! The facility does NOT allow glitter. You will be asked to remove your cap if we see glitter. Remember, we are guests of this facility.
4. Will students be permitted to throw their caps in the air at the close of the graduation ceremony?
No! We cannot throw our caps into the air while in the auditorium.
Virtual Ceremony Info
We will offer a Virtual Graduation Ceremony option on June 3, 2023 at 11am.
Students will receive more info on that in the coming months. We will be working with Stride to provide a prerecorded ceremony families can use to send out or stream for their own home ceremony.
