Words from the Woods

January 2022

Renewing the year!

We come back from Winter Break ready to dig in to new projects, problems, and practice sets--making meaning in every classroom and "doing school" together. We're rebuilding our community, navigating the safety protocols, and grateful to be on campus, in person.

Let's make it great!

The legacy of Dr. King

In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, the Woods Charter BIPOC Club has planned a special day of panels, workshops, and breakouts dedicated to inclusivity.

Guests from within the Woods community and the local area will share their perspectives.

Acclaimed actor and playwright Mike Wiley will present a one-man show about the Freedom Riders for middle and high school audiences on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

No School on Jan. 17

School will be closed on Monday, January 17.

Progress Updates

Mid-T2 grades will be updated on January 31.

Students and parents should check grades to be aware of academic progress and any concerns.

The trimester ends on March 9.

Enrichments

Enrichments, a high point of every winter, will run January 28 through March 4. Signups will be available in the next week--keep an eye on your email for the link.

Upcoming opportunities will include outside games, creative expression, and time for wellness and reflection.

Materials needed!

Do you have any yarn or fabric that you don't need? Consider sending it in for upcoming Enrichments and projects!

Usable quality desired, in any colors or designs.

Yarn and fabric can be dropped off for Ms. Lawrence or Ms. Berg.

College-wise

Seniors are submitting applications, receiving decisions, interviewing for scholarships, researching programs and reviewing finances.

It's also a great time for students in grades 9-11 to do some research, think about the options, and even visit of campuses in-person or online.

We encourage all Woods families to talk through priorities, planning, and expectations around what happens after Woods--because the time goes by more quickly than you'd expect. Resources include Big Future, CFNC, and Common App, and there are a million more. There is a lot to think about!

Advisors support students through the process at school, but family involvement is crucial to a good plan.

COVID testing and information

COVID testing continues to be available on Thursdays at school. Results may be delayed due to the recent increase in tests administered.
