Message from the Principal *posted on 2.14.21
Dear Apple Valley High School Parents and Guardians,
I hope this message finds you well and warm on a frigid, February Sunday! A reminder that Monday, Feb. 15 is Presidents Day - a holiday for the entire school. Students will not attend classes on Tuesday, Feb. 16, and Wednesday, Feb. 17 (state-required teacher planning days) but students will continue to work on already assigned work. Assigned work will not be due and new assignments will not be given on these two days. Thursday and Friday, February 18-19 will be the final two days of Distance Learning in our current schedule.
Starting Monday, Feb. 22nd, and Tuesday, Feb. 23rd grades 9, 10, 11 AND 12 will return in-person, in Cohort A (Monday and Thursday) and Cohort B (Tuesday and Friday) each week. Digital Academy students will join the classes via Zoom. Last names A-K will attend via Zoom on Monday and Thursday. Last names, L-Z Digital Academy will attend via Zoom on Tuesday and Friday.
Beginning this week, AVHS support staff will be reaching out to families identified by our data to invite students for in-person support from teachers on Wednesday, February 24th and Wednesday, March 3 from 9:30 am to 1:40 pm. Please see below for more information.
Lastly, as you can see above, our teachers have incredibly high expectations for themselves. They go to great lengths to build relationships with students and help them succeed.. I know this has happened across the world, but AVHS teachers are a special group when it comes to their care and commitment. Each week, I have the opportunity to see them in action in Zoom, in the building, and in after-school activities. Their dedication consistently inspires me and reminds me that they need our support and gratitude for all that they are doing. Please join me this week in taking some extra time to send an email, text, or phone call to let an AVHS teacher or other staff member know how much they are appreciated. Take care. Be Well. See you soon! And as always...Go Eagles!

Week of February 15 - All Students
***Beginning February 22***
In-Person Additional Support on Wednesdays
Beginning this week, AVHS support staff will be reaching out to families identified by our data to invite students for in-person support from teachers on Wednesday, February 24th and Wednesday, March 3 from 9:30 am to 1:40 pm.
To start, we will prioritize our 12th-grade students who need support to graduate and students in grades 9 to 11 who are close to earning credit in multiple classes that they are not currently passing.
AVHS Administration and the Student Assistance Team will reevaluate data every week which will allow us to add additional students to come before the trimester ends.
Families can decline the invitation if they do not feel comfortable with sending their student to school at this time.
AVHS Faculty and Staff are also available for virtual support via Schoology, E-mail, and Zoom on Wednesdays from 9:30 - 1:40.
Busing will be provided for students in the AVHS attendance area and breakfast and lunch will be served.
Space is limited for in-person intervention. Families will receive invitations this week and must respond/RSVP by Friday, Feb. 22. At that time, additional invitations will be sent out. Students may request intervention invitations directly from a teacher.
