From now until October 15th, we will be sharing about different stories and people of Hispanic Heritage. If you are of Hispanic or Latino heritage, and you would like to share a story about cultural traditions or celebrations that you cherish as a family, please contact Mrs. Tietjen at mtietjen@conejousd.org. Spotlight on Hispanic Americans
Hilda Solis
Hilda Solis is the United States Secretary of Labor. She is the first Hispanic woman to serve in the Presidential Cabinet. She was born in California to immigrant parents. She has made tremendous gains in the areas of environment, paving the way for environmentally friendly jobs.
Cesar Chavez
Cesar Estrada Chavez was an American labor leader, community organizer, businessman, and Latino American civil right activist. He formed the National Farm Workers Association to fight for the rights and working conditions of the migrant farmers.
Frida Kahlo
Frida Kahlo de Rivera was a Mexican artist best known for her self-portraits. Her paintings are strongly influenced by Mexican folk culture, and use lots of bright colors and dramatic symbolism.
