Originally founded by the Duke of York in 1626, this colony was founded for trade and profits and is governed by a Royal colony.
The Middle Colonies including New York were the big food producing region that included corn and wheat and livestock including beef and pork. Other industries included the production of iron ore, lumber, textiles, furs and shipbuilding. Also New York does not have a necessary religion.
The Geography
The general geography of the Middle Colonies has a mix of the New England and Southern features but had fertile soil and land that was suited to farming. It has mountains in the northeast, lowlands from Lake Ontario along the Canadian border, and an Atlantic coastal plain
Some Events
The Albany Congress occurred at Albany, New York in 1754 to help unite the colonies for defense against the Iroquois Confederacy. The Federalists Papers were published in New York newspapers to sway voters to accept the new constitution.
