What is Science Night?
Science Night is not a science fair! Science Night is an annual event at Mount Vernon High School designed to showcase student learning in science, technology and math, community businesses & organizations that use science, math and technology in their daily work, and colleges & universities that offer degrees in science, math and technology related fields. This event is fun for all ages, and is open to the entire Mount Vernon community.
In the science classrooms, students volunteer to lead science demonstrations and teach attendees the ideas behind their fun & exciting science activities! We have fire, explosions, body parts, geology, marine science and a crime scene. We also have free planetarium shows, math fun, rocket launching and robotics!
Community Businesses demonstrate how they use science in their daily work. This answers that age-old student question, “When am I ever going to use THIS information again?”!! Hands-on demos show how science, math & technology lead to exciting careers! Who comes to this? The fire department, the police department, marine science organizations, doctors, the public utility district…..you’ll be surprised at all the local businesses that use science!
Talk to local (and not-so-local) colleges and universities. See what opportunities are available and what you can do to prepare for post-secondary training & education.
Mount Vernon School District students of all ages come and bring their whole families….but it’s not just for Mount Vernon students! Science Night has something fun for everyone! Because students bring their whole families, we usually have more than 2,000 people attend Science Night!
