Heronshaw School Newsletter

Welcome Letter September 2018

Welcome From Mrs Saunders-Short - Headteacher

Welcome back after the long summer break and a warm welcome to the new children in foundation. We are all really looking forward to this new year and watching all the children grow, learn and develop. It has been lovely to hear about their exciting summer holidays. There are lots of things happening this half term so don’t forget to look out for updates. We have also made changes to the way we teach reading and writing which you were updated about during the parents meetings.

Throughout the year our updates will come in many forms: This newsletter will be just one. We will still be using the school website, Twitter, as well as texting and emailing. You will find that we will, wherever possible, not be sending home paper letters, so it is more important than ever that you ensure we have the correct phone numbers and email address so you don't miss out on up-and-coming events. Please see the office ASAP if you need to change any of these details. The website also includes many key documents and policies that are available to you all, as well as achievements of the school.

We continue to operate an open-door policy, and are always happy to discuss any concerns you have on a daily basis, so please feel free to come in and talk to teachers and all staff. We want to make your child’s schooling a positive experience.

We also offer teachers' school email address to any parents, this is to support you in communication with the school. As I am sure you are aware teachers are very busy with the children on a daily basis, so please allow a couple of days for a reply, any urgent concerns, please email the office or speak with the class teacher directly. All staff emails can be found under the 'Contact Us' section on the website.

This term we will be revisiting the school values, please talk with your children about our 7 values (found below) and how important they are. We will focus on 'Friendship' and 'Kindness' in more detail this half term.

I am looking forward to working with you all in this coming year.

Head Teacher

Attendance is very important to us. So that we ensure we provide all children with the best start we ask that parents take children’s schooling seriously and not to book holidays during term time, or take any time off that would be unauthorised (see attendance policy for clarification). Any unauthorised holiday that meets 5 days, either in succession or in accumulation, will result in a fine. We will make daily phone calls to parents of any children not in school and all attendance and lateness is monitored weekly. Any concerns will result in a letter being sent home and a meeting to discuss the issues. If poor attendance or lateness does persist then a meeting with the attendance panel will be arranged. We are here to support any parents who are struggling to get their children to school daily and on time, if you require any advice or support please speak to Penny Meehan (School Parent Liason Co-ordinator) She can be found on the main playground Tuesday- Thursday ams, or through contacting the office.
Can i also remind you that it vital that you call the school when your child is absent, if we call you and can't get hold of you, we will proceed to go through your contact list until we have spoken to you personally. If we can not speak to you personally to establish where your child is, then we will be obliged to contact the police to make a welfare check.

As many of you are aware we offer a huge range of clubs every half term, and this term's clubs are now due to start (see our website if you have not got dates and times please, rather than keep calling the office), so we ask if you have taken a place on a club please ensure that you make full use of it because it does mean someone else has not been able to have the place. See the website to look at the range available. Please ensure all clubs are paid for prior to the start date. Foundation will have the opportunity to join clubs after the first half term.
