Update from Mr. B in the gym!
Message from Mr. Evans!
This week with Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd graders I read I Like Myself. This book accompanied a lesson on self-esteem. The 3rd graders did a lesson on receiving feedback. Feedback is information! We also ended each class with some time outside in the warm sunshine.
Be Well,
Mr. Evans

“The Importance of Representation in the Media,” April 28, 5-6 PM via Zoom
Join the Essex Westford School District and Akshata Nayak, Founder of Little Patakha and Nutritionist at Alternative Roots Wellness Center, as she leads this workshop geared toward caregivers about "The Importance of Representation in Media." Representation can be defined as the ways in which societal aspects such as race, gender, age, ethnicity, nationality, and social issues are introduced and made visible. We know that diverse representation is critical in informing how young children build their perspectives on their own ethnic-racial group, gender identity, socioeconomic status, etc. as well as that of others.
As a holder of two Master of Science degrees, in Biochemistry and Applied Clinical Nutrition, a woman and BIPOC business owner, and a mom, Akshata offers a unique perspective on the importance of accurate and altruistic representation in media through the eyes of a business patron as well as a business owner. With a scientific, data-based, and personal approach, Akshata will discuss cultural competency, empathy and representation in media, the psychological effect of media on children, and will answer the question “Why is it important to have representation in media?”.
Register to attend the workshop here! Questions? Contact Sarah Warrington at swarrington@ewsd.org or 802.857.2007.

“My daughter has found her people at TDI!” We hear this often. In our small rural state, it is often difficult for our brightest children to find others who have similar intensities, interests, passion for learning, senses of humor, and quirkiness.
TDI (Talent Development Institute) is a place where we bring these kids together and allow them to flourish, have fun, and make lifelong friends.
TDI (Talent Development Institute) is a summer camp/academic program, with overnight and commuter options, for advanced and gifted students who are entering grades 4-9. TDI combines the relaxed atmosphere of summer camp with new academic & creative opportunities. It is a great summer opportunity for your brightest students to learn, grow, and have fun with their intellectual peers. The 2022 Institute will be held for two weeks: June 19-25 and June 26-July 2. Participants may be involved for one or both weeks. We have a great mix of classes this year, with something for a variety of types of learners and thinkers! This year's classes--which include Rube Goldberg Machines, Movie Making, Just Some Rocket Science, Create a Culture, and Clowning Around-- nurture students' creativity and their love of learning. Campers have a blast learning alongside other smart kids on a small college campus (Northern Vermont University, formerly Johnson State College) nestled in the beautiful Green Mountains. Partial scholarships are available. Go to www.tdivermont.org.
Sincerely,
Lucy
