Wakefield Hills Elementary School

Weekly Staff Update: February 1st-5th, 2016

Welcome to February! This is one of my favorite months...not just because it's my birthday month but also because it is nice and short! I appreciate all of your hard work collecting data for our Saturday School referrals. I realize how involved data collection is related to the RTI process, IEP process and so much more! Your consistent value of this process is very visible and appreciated by myself, your students and their families.

Important events, deadlines, etc...

*Thank you to all grade level leaders for attending the voluntary wish list meeting last week. We had some excellent discussions about the focus of our purchases being based on curriculum. We will be finalizing approved purchases over the next month.

*The Hi-Five Patrol has been selected! Our students started last week and are already doing a wonderful job! A new set of Hi-Five Patrol members will be selected and announced on Monday, February 8th. Please encourage all 4th grade students to submit the patrol application (via google forms).

*Who wants a Co-Teacher?? I am looking for a classroom/teacher to co-teach with for a Science/Social Studies unit. As the district is building these units we would work together to create a unit. We would also be assisted by the PD department as needed. If you are interested please send me an email!

*SATURDAY SCHOOL: Our Saturday school Co-Coordinators will be Joanne Pigott and Diane Tourangeau. We have been discussing and planning for Saturday school during our SIT meetings. Please start to think about students in your class whom would meet the criteria for Saturday school. We will be putting together some guidance around this to share. Our hope is to choose students similar to last year that are "on the cusp". Saturday School begins on Saturday, February 27th and runs for 8 weeks.

*Yoga for Relaxation on Tuesday, February 2nd at 2:55pm in the Gymnasium. Please join us!

*Sodexo is hosting a "Farm to Table" taste testing in our cafeteria on Monday, February 1st for all lunches.

*SIT Meeting: Wednesday, February 3rd in the Media Center from 2:45-3:15pm

*WWPS School Committee Meeting, Thursday, February 11th at 6:30pm in the John F. Deering Middle School Media Center.

*Winter Recess: February 15th-19th

*** Reminders***

*Please arrive to school on time by 8:00am in the morning. If you are running late for any reason please call the office so that we can be sure your class is supervised until you arrive.

*Students behavior in lunch was difficult last week. Please remind your classes of appropriate lunchroom behavior and the Hi-Five rules for the cafeteria. Our staff works very hard during lunch to maintain the cafeteria.

*Please be sure to leave the teachers lounge area clean and neat after you have used it. The janitors clean the room nightly but we each need to do our part as well.

*If/When you are sending a student for behavior to the office, please call the office first to ensure that either Mrs. Marchetti or myself are available to meet with the student. It is not appropriate for other members of the office staff to be handling student behavior. I appreciate that all "hands are on deck" but we need to ensure safety and consistency when dealing with student behavior.

*Please arrive with your class on time to lunch and specialist classes. If you are unable to arrive on-time due to unforeseen circumstances please notify the office, cafeteria or specialist teacher.

*Outdoor/Indoor Recess will now be decided consistently among all three of our Elementary schools. Each week a school is in "charge" of the decision and it is shared with all three schools. We will notify you by 10:00am of each day regarding recess. Please call the office if you take your students out for recess before this time and check before going outside.
