Explore "Natural Wonders" with 5th Grade!
Congratulations to our 5th-graders and Mr. Barker for an amazing performance of "Natural Wonders" this week for the entire school, as well as parents and loved ones.Their show offered an immersive experience to the top of Mt. Everest, down to The Great Barrier Reef & beyond. Excellent and creative work, students!
Cognitive Abilities Test starts next week
During the week of December 11, all students in third grade and fifth grade will take the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT). CogAT is one component of District 30's comprehensive assessment plan. The test measures general and specific cognitive abilities; a student’s ability to reason and problem solve.
This multilevel battery assessment provides information in three domains: verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal. Each domain requires approximately 45-60 minutes to administer. In addition, a practice test will be administered prior to the actual testing session. CogAT is a timed test; however, most students have sufficient time to attempt every item.
Student results will be provided to the faculty and to parents in mid- to late March. If you have any questions, please contact your school principal or Dr. Melissa Hirsch, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, at mhirsch@district.30.org.

Adjustment to Friday flag raising ceremony
Beginning this Friday, students will be directed to their lockers before the flag-raising ceremony. This adjustment allows them to drop off their winter clothes, backpacks, and other belongings before proceeding to the gym with their classroom teachers. As a result of this adjustment, we anticipate that flag-raising will commence closer to 8:50 a.m.
We would like to reassure you that parents are still more than welcome to join us each week for a time of community building and celebration of our unique school culture. Your presence is valued, and we look forward to continuing to foster a strong sense of community together.
