Carpenters & Millwrights

Scope of Work

Carpenters: Carpenters measure, saw, level, and nail wood and other building materials. But they do more than that. They also install tile and insulation, acoustical ceilings, cabinets, and siding. Their skills are employed on a wide range of construction projects, from homes to skyscrapers, tunnels to bridges, and highways to monuments.


A millwright is a skilled craftsman in the industrial construction industry. Their expertise is in the art of moving, installing, aligning, and leveling machinery and conveyor systems, in a safe, efficient, and precise manner.

Length of Program

Four-year apprenticeship, classes one day every two weeks.


  • Possess high school diploma or GED
  • Basic mathematics proficiency test
  • Pass drug test

Health Science re-opens the HOSA chapter at HACC

Jen Tharp met with HOSA this week to re-open the HOSA chapter at HACC. HOSA will provide student leadership opportunities for Health Science students. Jen is currently working on establishing officers, organizing registration for HOSA events and preparing students for the HOSA Regional event in January. The Regional event will be held in January. Go HOSA!

Michigan District of Kiwanis Law Enforcement Career Academy and American Legion Student Trooper Academy

These one week academies are designed for high school students in grades 10-12. High school students will experience the training needed to become Michigan State Police troopers. Students will learn about traffic and criminal law, defensive tactics, firearms and marksmanship fundamentals, first-aid, water safety, narcotics, search and seizure, patrol tactics, crash investigations, law enforcement career opportunities, forensic science, conservation law, underwater recovery, and character issues of leadership.
