BULLYING PREVENTION MONTH

October was Bullying Prevention Month. I spent the month teaching/reviewing bullying in all of our classes, K-5. My emphasis was on students understanding the difference between bullying and someone being mean. Specifically, that bullying is an intentional, negative act happening repeatedly. Two power points were used for the lessons. One for our primary students (K-2) and our intermediate students (3-5). Be sure to view the power points at your leisure.

WHAT'S THE SCOOP?

LUNCH WITH DR. ALSTON - Coming soon! All student names will be entered for a drawing to have lunch with Dr. Alston. Four to five names will be drawn from each grade level to dine with me during their scheduled lunch time. I will be doing this on a monthly basis. I can't wait!

AGLAB WEEK - Mobile AgLab week, as always, was a huge success. It provided for a variety of hands on Science lessons. Lesson topics have been: Little Red Hen, Thirsty Stems, How Well We Wash, Bee-Utiful to name a few. Be sure to ask your student what they experienced in AgLab. Many thanks to our PTO for funding this experience for our students.

AMERICAN EDUCATION WEEK - Every year, parents are invited to visit classrooms to experience the great teaching and learning that happens on a daily basis. This year, American Education Week is November 18-22. The schedule will be forthcoming. Hope you plan to visit.

PARENT TEACHER CONFERENCES - Conferences are an opportunity for parents to meet with teachers to discuss student progress during the trimester. Conferences are scheduled for November 25-27. Please remember that conferences are scheduled electronically. Parents will be able to schedule conferences between November 8-21. Unless your child's teacher is having student led conferences, conference time is for parents.

CITADEL HEART OF LEARNING - It's that time of year again! The Citadel Heart of Learning Award is a teaching excellence award for Chester County teachers. Fifteen finalists and three overall winners are selected for their outstanding contributions to the community through teaching. Finalists and winners are honored with an award, cash prizes and a celebratory banquet. What do you need to do? Show your school spirit by nominating the great teachers at Exton! Students, parents, teachers, administrators or anyone in the community can nominate a teacher at CitadelHeartofLearning.com. Nominations are open through December 31, 2019. In addition, there is a "Schools with Heart" contest which awards the school for nominating teachers. The top three schools, in terms of overall nominations, receive funds for assemblies or special events: 1st place $1500, 2nd place $750, 3rd place $500. Let's get those nominations in and see if we can be in the top three!

STUDENT COUNCIL IS ON THE MOVE! - Student Council's first Spirit Day was a huge success! They raised $411.39 as the result of anyone wearing pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness donating $1.

WCAEA NO COOK NIGHT- The teachers' association is supporting the West Chester Food Cupboard with their first No Cook Night Out at Freddy's West Chester and Exton locations on November 5th between 4-8. Just mention "Fundraiser".

FROM THE NURSE

As you know, an emergency can happen at any time. Therefore, it is imperative that the Nurse, Mrs. Grant, has emergency information for all students on file. If you have not completed emergency information for your student, on the Parent Portal, please do so.

BRRRRRR, THE WEATHER HAS CHANGED

As the weather has changed, please be sure to dress students accordingly for the weather.

MORE IS BEING LOST THAN FOUND

On a daily basis, many student items of clothing find their way to the Lost and Found. So much so that we cannot keep up with sorting or storing it. At the end of each week, items will be bagged and held until the end of the month. At that time, items will be donated to the Goodwill. Items currently being held will be on display during parent conferences. Please encourage your student to keep up with their belongings.

DON'T FORGET TO GET TO THE POLLS TOMORROW
