"The Lion King"

In 1997 the musical The Lion King opened on Broadway. This is very interesting, because in the past musicals usually came first and then a movie was made. In famous Disney fashion those rules have now all changed. The Lion King musical was based on the animated Disney film of 1994, The Lion King and was one of the first Broadway musicals to be produced by Disney. This was also one of the first musicals to be written by a famous rock musician. Elton John wrote the music, along with Tim Rice, lyricist and Hans Zimmerman, who did orchestrations. I personally have never seen it, but I have seen the mini-scene at Disney World and it was amazing. The colorful costumes, hollow animal puppetry costumes, and acrobats, ..... wow!

The Lion King
is one of the longest running shows still on Broadway. It also paved the way for the creation of many other Disney musicals such as: Little Mermaid, High School Musical, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, and Tarzan just to name a few. Many movies are being converted into Broadway shows not just animated movies. So times are definitely changing!
