Short and simple - thank you for steering your school and team, balancing positivity with high expectations, and self-preservation with grit.

So apparently this last week, May 1 specifically, was National Principal Appreciation Day. I apologize for missing this. NAESP's recognition day is in the fall, and didn't anticipate another. I believe many sites did their own thing with you as part of Teacher Appreciation Week. Please know of my respect and admiration for you, your teachers and staff, in our work of changing the trajectory of the lives of our students.

I'm looking forward to learning with you next on Wednesday at our Elementary Leadership Team. Please let me know what support you need from me.

Every Interaction Matters; The Experience of School

"School is not only about learning, but it is also about experience"

I started meeting this week with the folks I evaluate. The goals of that meeting are to complete the growth plan rating form and discuss the summative process. We will NOT complete the summative at this meeting.

A group of us has been brought together to redesign the ELP program. As a result, both parents and teachers who have taught ELP this year will be getting a survey about the program. Additionally, district personnel will be conducing focus groups with students who attended ELP.

For those interested during the 2017/2018 school year, we were contacted by Tere Redmon, a retired teacher, who has written a children's story about her Labrador having puppies (Labradors for Life: Dallas Becomes a Mom.) She’s visited Hickory Hills, Fremont, Portland, McBride, Bingham, Truman, and Harrison and presented a short presentation to students.

· Kindergarten through 1st grade: the presentation talks about how to read using pictures.

· 2nd grade through 5th grade: the presentation explains to students how she became a writer.

If you are interested in the opportunity, contact me directly by Friday, May 12th.
