District 15 Covid Mitigations
Superintendent Heinz and members of her administrative cabinet presented updated plans related to COVID-19 mitigation following the Friday, February 18 virtual Board meeting.
The District is maintaining the following mitigations:
Promoting hand hygiene;
Continuing enhanced cleaning and disinfecting protocols;
Requiring masking on transportation as required per the federal CDC guidelines;
Continuing SHIELD testing for those that chose to opt-in; and
Isolating positive cases for 5 days at home with masking for an additional 5 days upon return to school. Isolation will be 10 days if the positive individual does not want to wear a mask for days 6-10.
The District has modified the following mitigations:
Recommended, but not required masking;
Maintaining social distancing to the greatest extent possible;
Requiring all students to stay home until they are free of symptoms (fever, vomit, and/or diarrhea) for 24 hours without medication (per the student handbook);
Sharing vaccination information on the District’s website;
Continuing with the use bell covers for instruments; specialized masks are recommended, but not required during rehearsal; and
Choir and general music students will be “singing outward” vs. facing each other while maintaining the greatest amount of social distancing possible.
The Board of Education made decisions on the following mitigations:
Contact tracing: The District will remove contact tracing as a mitigation effort due to the inability to properly contact trace with individuals in a mixed mask environment. Removing contract tracing also removes individuals being excluded from school based on close contacts.
Moving forward, a letter will be sent to a classroom if there is a positive case in the class. This practice is similar to what the District does if there are other serious illnesses in a classroom. We will continue to provide a similar notice if there is a positive case on a bus. Staff will receive an email at the end of each day indicating how many student and staff cases the building had that day.
Test To Stay: With the removal of contact tracing, there is no longer a need for the Test To Stay protocol to be used.
Vaccination for Staff: The District has removed the weekly testing requirements for unvaccinated staff.
Additional information:
District 15 continues to ask individuals to stay home when they are sick or symptomatic. Per the student handbook (pg. 49-50), students need to stay home until they are free of symptoms (fever, vomit, and/or diarrhea) for 24 hours without medication.
Please keep in mind that these could be COVID symptoms and we strongly recommend you consider getting a PCR test before returning to school. COVID-19 symptoms include: fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea as identified by the Illinois Department of Public Health.Students who test positive for COVID-19 will continue to receive concurrent learning while they are out of school. Students who are home with symptoms, awaiting a test, or home with any other illness will not receive concurrent learning.
Information about local vaccination opportunities will continue to be available on our website for those interested.
Families of students with IEPs or 504s should contact their Assistant Principal (504) or Special Education Coordinator (IEP) if they have any questions or concerns.

Dental Services for Students
Community Consolidated School District 15 will be hosting Orland Park Dental Services (OPDS) coming up in March through May. OPDS has provided in-school dental services for all eligible children in the State of Illinois since 1999. Dental services will be accessible to children eligible for public aid as well as for those with private insurance.
Anyone signed up will receive a free dental exam and a toothbrush. For those that qualify or provide private insurance information, the additional services may include a cleaning, fluoride treatment, and sealants. All services done will be given to the child in a take home form describing the services determined, areas of concern, overall oral care score, and any additional care needed. If any additional help is needed for the child a comprehensive list of available local dentists will be given with no limits of insurance. All these in-school services will be provided by licensed dentists, hygienists, and assistants with state-of-the-art portable equipment and ensuring a clean, safe, and comfortable environment at your child’s school.

Registration for 2022-23
Online student registration for the 2022-23 school year is now open. If you have not already started this process for your student(s), please visit our registration page to start this process.
Registration is the first step in getting ready for the up-coming school year. After you register your child online you need to:
Pay student fees. Our student fee webpage outlines the District’s student fee structure and the three ways fees can be paid.
If you have a student that is starting Kindergarten, entering fourth grade, or entering 7th grade, you are required to prove residency in District 15. Our residency webpage outlines the documents you will need to provide to prove residency.
All three steps of the enrollment process must be completed prior to the start of the school year. Students of families that, when required, do not prove residency, will not be able to attend class in a District 15 until the family’s residency is verified.

Outdoor Recess
Students will be outside to the greatest extent possible. Now that we have snow on the ground, we are asking parents to please help us by ensuring your child is dressed appropriately for winter temperatures and if they want to play in the snow.
Students with snow pants and boots are welcome to play in the snow. Students with gym shoes will be encouraged to play on the blacktop.
Please send your child to school with their cold weather clothing items on or in a bag for storage. We also kindly ask that families assist us by teaching your child how to independently put on their snow pants and boots. We thank you in advance for your help!
Exceptions for students to stay inside from recess can only be made when a child brings a doctor's note excusing him/her from outdoor recess.
Staff members provide playground supervision. If students need assistance, there are supervisors in bright orange vests to assist. If students are not following behavior expectations, a staff member will address the behavior with the student(s). Based on the behavior, the child may speak to an administrator.
Recess Temperature Guidelines per District 15
- Cold Weather:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°-10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal's discretion, students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
Warm weather: Students will be outside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is below 100 degrees. Students will be inside for recess/PE if the temperature (or heat index) is 100 degrees or above.
Other considerations in which indoor recess is allowed include the condition of the playground and the presence of precipitation.
