Meet Our New Staff!

Big picture

My name is Jena Rogers. I will be teaching K-4 Special Education. I graduated with a B.A. in History from ECSU and am close to completing my Master’s in Special Education at CCSU. I love to exercise, sing, and spend time with my husband and my 2 year old son. I am so excited to be a part of this fabulous team here at Sterling, and I look forward to working with parents and students to have a great school year!

Classroom Happenings!

Kindergarten students engaged in learning centers this week! Learning centers help children develop many different skills such as fine motor skills, social skills, language skills, problem solving skills, and the ability to share. Check out the pictures below to see our Kindergarten students at work!

Students in Kindergarten also work with Ms. Hill, our school's Occupational Therapist. Ms. Hill encourages students to work with silly putty to build the muscles in their hands so that they will gain the muscle tone and strength needed to complete various tasks such as cutting and writing.

In preschool, students are working on naming colors and matching objects that are the same as they play memory with Mrs. Locicero.

Mrs. Smith's Mentor Program

Mrs. Smith is in the process of arranging for students to sign up to volunteer their time to mentor. Mentoring is an amazing experience for mentors, teachers, and students. Mentoring is beneficial for those that mentor, for it improves communication and personal skills, develops leadership skills, reinforces study skills and knowledge of subjects, and increases confidence and motivation. Mentoring also benefits those that are being mentored, for it provides them with practical advice and encouragement, allows them to learn from the experience of others, increases their social and academic confidence, develops their communication skills, study and personal skills, and assists them in developing strategies for dealing with both personal and academic issues.

News from Mrs. Smith

It's hard to believe that winter is right around the corner! I am compiling winter boot size information for our 2018 Winter Boot Project. If your family is in need, we are partnering with the TVCCA's Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) to provide winter boots during the upcoming holiday season. The deadline to provide Winter boot information for PK through 5th grade students is October 10, 2018. Please provide the student's name, age, gender, and boot size (no 1/2 sizes). Please email or call Mrs. Smith with the boot information, or if you have any questions.
