A Weekly Update from Perkiomen Valley Middle School East
A Word From Dr. Clune
Dear PV East Parents and Guardians,
Wow! Today was an exciting day! We started off with an Eagles Pep Rally. It was so much fun and there was so much enthusiasm and Eagles spirit. Many thanks to all of the faculty & staff for organizing this exciting event. Jenn Frederick of Fox 29 did a live broadcast during the event. I have included the video clip below.
We also held our annual Spelling Bee. CONGRATULATIONS to 7th grade student, Sarah Olijnyk - Wong for being our school's Spelling Bee Champion! She correctly spelling the word 'natatorium'. Big round of applause for our second place winner, 6th grade student Adithya Murali.
Tonight (1/20/23) is our Ice Skating Party from 7-9PM. This event is SOLD OUT so it will definitely be a lot of fun and a great opportunity to connect with friends from PV West. Many thanks to East H&S Association for organizing this event.
Our 6th Grade Winter Concert last Wednesday was Incredible. Our student performers and their teachers are very talented. Well done!

Home & School Association Updates
SAVE THE DATE: 2nd annual Student only BINGO night is scheduled for February 24th, Be on the lookout for sign up information in the next couple of weeks.
Parent/Pickup and Dropoff
Just reminding all parents that students being dropped off at school in the morning need to stay in line and pull up to the curb near the gym/auditorium to unload their children.
If you are picking up your child at the end of the day, you should get into the carline behind the school bus loading area and follow the directives when the line moves closer to the building.
It is very important that we follow these procedures in order to keep everyone safe.
8th Grade News
Thursday 1/26 starts the process of 8th grade students preparing for high school. On 1/26 there will be an assembly to start talking about academics available at the high school. Students will not start picking electives until February 23rd, however teachers will start discussing academic levels with students. More information on the transition to high school can be found on the Program Planning tab of Counseling Center Website: https://www.pvsd.org/east/departments/counseling-center/

Message from the School Nurse
How Sick is Too Sick for School?
The student must be fever free for 24 hours without the use of medications (i.e. Tylenol or Advil), and 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea before returning to school.
For specific identified infectious diseases, students will be excluded from school according to the Office of Public Health guidelines.
Students are not permitted to carry any medications in school. All medication, including over the counter medications, must have a physician order and be brought to the nurse’s office by a parent or guardian.
If your student becomes ill at school they must report to the nurse. Safety dictates that students not go to the bathroom to deal with an illness on their own.
A parent/guardian or emergency contact will be called by the nurse if the nurse determines the student is too ill to remain in school, has a temperature of 100.0 degrees or more, has vomited or has diarrhea.
It is recommended that a parent or designee pick up a sick or ill student within an hour of being notified by the nurse.
Covering coughs/sneezes and proper handwashing will help prevent the spread of illnesses.
National Suicide Prevention Hotline
988 has been designated as the new three-digit dialing code that will route callers to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (now known as the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), and is now active across the United States.
When people call, text, or chat 988, they will be connected to trained counselors that are part of the existing Lifeline network. These trained counselors will listen, understand how their problems are affecting them, provide support, and connect them to resources if necessary. Please see below for more information.
The previous Lifeline phone number (1-800-273-8255) will always remain available to people in emotional distress or suicidal crisis.
