3D design with 3rd grade TAG
During their 21st Century Skills Unit, 3rd Grade TAG students were tasked to design a Christmas tree ornament to print in 3D. The students utilize a 3D design program called TinkerCad to create the designs. Today, Alex successfully printed his ornament on the 3D Printer in our STEAM Lab!
Hour of Code for Computer Science Week
December-Computer Science
Eastside Elementary K-5 students participated in the Hour of Code this week by working through various coding activities on Code.org. The Hour of Code is a global movement in Computer Science Education presented by Code.org reaching tens of millions of students in 180+ countries through a one-hour introduction to computer science and computer programming. As we all know, we live in a world surrounded by technology. We also know that whatever field our students choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly depend on understanding how technology works, but only a small fraction of all students and adults actually know how technology works. That’s why our entire student body at Eastside in Greenbrier joined in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (December 3-9). By participating in this Hour of Code, we are making a statement that Eastside is ready to teach these foundational 21st-century skills. We enjoyed having our Superintendent Scott Spainhour, Mayor Sammy Hartwick, Officer Thorpe, several community business owners and employees, Greenbrier High School AP CS students and teacher, Mr. Giles, as well as several parents join us for our event. Our students enjoyed sharing their excitement and interest in computer programming with everyone! Our students here at Eastside are on their way to changing the future with an Hour of Code!
